If we feel abandoned by God, it is a mistake to trust those feelings. It will lead us far astray.

This was Israel's response to crises:

"We are in a crisis, God isn't answering our prayers, so He has abandoned us. Let's find a god who will." They fell into gross idolatry.

Modern church:

"God is not blessing His church. Let's find technologies, philosophies, and systems that will."

This sense (but not reality) of abandonment has been the lead-in to idolatry by the people of God for centuries. God calls us to faithfulness in the face of circumstances.

It is to say that there is no crisis so great that God cannot be ignored.

Isaiah 49:8-26
