Morning everyone.
So good to see y'all here today, and it is a beautiful day in for everyone, that is at home, or sorry for the technical difficulties, but I think we have the livestream sorted out now.
So, hopefully you'll hear everything at this point.
We re Colossians today.
So, we're continuing to study and Colossians, for those who have been here, those who haven't, we been going through the book of Colossians, the letter that Paul wrote to the Colossians and sign the title of the sermon day, is what do you need to wear dress for success?
Call telenet the Colossians to take things off to put off certain things and today we're going to be located passes where he says clothe yourselves with certain things.
And is I was thinking about that a reminder that expression Dress for Success.
Which actually came from a book that came out in 1970s.
I forget what you're exactly came out but it was the first book of its kind where I actually did a scientific study.
To see.
Okay, does dress really affect things and there have been subsequent studies.
Since then in the 80s 90s and even in early 2000, swear they, they determined scientifically that.
Yes.
What you, where does actually affect things?
It affects one affects how you think about yourself is one way, it affects things.
The way you dress, affects the way you think about yourself.
I can actually even affect the way you think about other things.
I found the people that were were dressing in business, proper attire and dressing up that you would actually a tackle problems are completely different way.
Then they did if they were not dressed for work or for business where they might just kind of like it be hit by a problem and be like Where if they were dressed differently, they be ready to tackle.
The problem is to be creative and come up with Solutions, so, again, not everybody but yeah, a lot of people are affected by the way, they dress, and they were on the way you think about yourself.
But the end of the scientific studies.
They actually said, well, not only affects the way you think about yourself, but it affects the way other people perceive and receive, you as well.
And so there became a whole big movements, a dress for success.
They still having a non-profit around the world today, where they receive donations for women to, for dress, for business and dress for success in its kind of interesting.
But that's really where Paul is going with kriti.
Is he wants them to dress for success.
He wants them to be successful.
Christians again, in this world there's a lot of people that claim that I'm a Christian to take that label upon themselves.
But man, are we living as true Christians?
If Jesus Christ.
Where to look at us when he say, you really are living as one of my followers, as a true Christian and Paul wanted that for the classes.
I think that's what the Colossians want it for themselves as well.
And and I believe everyone here would want as well.
Well, that's what kind of led to the problem is very costly.
Is that the, the Christians?
It classy?
They're like, man, I want to live as a Christian.
I want to be successful at this.
I want to be a good Christian.
So what's it going to take and well in Time?
Start asking questions, are going to have people come and give you answers all kinds of opinions and they had these leaders, he's roaming teachers that were coming in and we call them gnostics today and and they were coming in and saying, well, if you really want to be a Christian, This is what it takes to become a Christian.
This is what it takes to really live as a Christian.
And it started teachers are things that just word true, they weren't right.
And so, Paul hears about what's going on a clock to, he write this letter and receive Paul's heart.
Actually there in Colossians 1 9 to 12, which we've looked at it, and I'm going to keep looking at is a church or something.
When we went through it, I challenged us to the church, must be praying.
That's regularly for ourselves for each other.
Paul says, for this reason, since the day we heard about you, we've not stopped praying for you.
We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding the spirit gives so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way that sound like a successful Christian.
Absolutely living a life.
Worthy.
Lord pleasing him in every way.
Bearing fruit in every good work growing in the knowledge of God being strengthened with all power according to his glorious.
My so they may have great endurance and patience giving joyful thanks to the father who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holding people in the Kingdom of Light.
Successful Christians.
This is Pauly.
Like, I am praying for you.
This is what I'm Frank and I really want you to succeed and he then takes his letter and explains.
Okay, what exactly does it take to become a Christian hits?
By what Jesus did not buy, what you and I do.
But why Jesus day, when he paid the penalty for our sins, taking away, everything that was against us, nailing it to the Cross.
But he also then, as we transitioned into chapter 3, we see he said, okay and to live as a Christian.
This is what it's going to take, and that's where we're at today.
But what I'd like to do is, let's go ahead and let's pray, the scripture for ourselves for each other here.
This morning, let's take this passage here, Colossians 1:9 if 12th and let's pray, this and ask God to teach us this morning.
Lord, we do pray.
And we want to just ask you again, you've given us your word, which is the truth.
Your word is truth.
You sanctify Us by Your Word, you set us apart.
You, you make us holy by what is written in and I pray that you would just fill us with the knowledge of your will.
Through the wisdom.
And understanding the spirit gives his, as the spirit speaks to our heart applies.
Got your word to our heart.
I ask that you would just fill us with the knowledge of your will so that we will live lives that are worthy of you.
We want to be Christians, not just in taking it out of ourselves.
But when people see it, they say, oh, well, that's what a Christian should be, that's being like, Jesus, that we would be pleasing, not just, with other people, or we want to be pleasing to you.
We want to please you in every way we need to bear fruit.
We need to pair the fruit of the spirit in our lives day in and day out, we need to be growing in our knowledge of you.
We need to be strengthened with your power because this life is hard and stand facing the channels of life can be difficult.
So we need your strength, so that we have patience and endurance that we need.
If father, we give you, thanks because you have not left us alone, you've given us your word.
You've given us a Holy Spirit, you reside, with us, giving us everything we need.
It's a Lord that again, we just asked this morning that you would take your word, apply it to our hearts and Minds that we will be true Christians and pray this in Jesus name.
Amen.
So what do you need to put on?
How do you dress for success as a Christian?
And that's really what we're getting out to the pasture today.
Colossians 3, I hope you open up to a Colossians chapter 3 verses 12 to 14 but again all didn't just write verses 12 to 14 as a stand-alone section, it's all within its context.
So what we're going to do is we're going to actually start in Colossians 3:1 and work our way up to verses 12 to 14 and then we'll spend our time studying those verses So again it's a live a successful Christian Life in this world.
He says since then you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated.
At the right hand of God, our hearts, the things that we want our desires.
He said, set your minds on things above, not on Earthly things.
What are we filling our minds with?
Put to death therefore whatever, belongs to your Earthly nature, sexual morality and Purity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry it again this is what we talked about last week.
And notice with that list again, is he just talking about outward actions know?
He's actually getting down to the heart, those impurities, those less those evil desires, the greed, it really isn't just a matter of change, your outward appearance or change out, what actions and how God wants to work on our hearts and we have to get to those things and say, okay.
But those things that the things that are in your hearts through concession to our lord.
It's because of these the wrath of God is coming.
You used to walk in these ways in the life you want to live, but now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as he's out again, looking at the Hard.
What's going on in our hearts, the anger, the raids, the malleus the slander and him.
