Hebrews: “Christ’s Victory in His Humanness”

Hebrews 2:9-18

July 24, 2022

I. Victory in His accomplishments (9-13)

1. God made Christ a little lower than angels. (vs 9)

2. God sent Christ to show man His nature. (vs 10)

John 14:2-3; 2 Corinthians 5:8; Matthew 25:23; Romans 5:8

3. God sent Christ to sanctify believers. (vs 11)

Galatians 4:4-6; Romans 8:16-17; I Corinthians 6:20

II. Victory as man’s deliverer (vs 14-16)

1. By willingly taking on human flesh.

Philippians 2:7

2. By dying for us.

Personally share Christ as you are led!

Romans 10:9-10

3. By destroying Satan’s power over sin and death.

Colossians 1:13-14; I John 3:8

4. By removing man’s fear of death

Matthew 10:28; Isaiah 46:4

III. Victory as our High Priest (vs 17-18)

Hebrews 4:15-16

1. In what ways do you magnify the glory of God in your life? At work? At home?

2. Do you find yourself underestimating the devil

3. Do you fear death? How does this passage prepare Christians to handle the inevitability of death? How can Christ’s accomplishments over death calm fears about death?

4. How does the fact that Jesus “had to be like his brothers and sisters” comfort you?

5. How does Jesus’s priesthood relate to his propitiatory death?
