INTRO
Good morning, friends, we’re so glad you have tuned in to hear God’s Precepts and Promises this morning brought to you by the Rome Church of Christ.
We’re examining Christianity systematically--taking all the Bible has to say on a subject and putting it together as best as possible.
Letting the Bible speak
Today we want to look at the holiness of the church.
God is Holy (Is 6:3).
Holy is to be set apart, separate for a special purpose.
God is totally separate from HIs creation.
Church (ἐκκλησία) is to be separate or holy from the world.
DISCUSSION
The church is made holy
Eph 5:25-27 The sacrifice of Christ makes it possible for His bride the church to be holy.
The church is a sanctified and cleansed by the washing of water by the word; thus, the church is consecrated to the service of God.
The church is the temple of God (Eph 2:21; 1 Cor 3:16-17)
Called holy
Heb 3:1; 1 Cor 1:2
1 Pet 2:5, 9 a holy priesthood, nation
The church is called to be holy
He made the church holy; now the church has to act like it (1 Pet 1:15-16)
Need reminders to be holy (Eph 4 24)
A distinction in world and the church (1 Thess 4:7)
thoughts Phil 4:8-
actions Rom 12:1; 6:19 Some things a Christian has no business being involved in; smell different (2 Cor 2:15-16; Eph 5:2-5)
To be holy in light of the 2nd coming 2 Pet 3:10-11

Q: Why did God tell Moses to take off his shoes?
A: Ex 3:5 “And he said, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy shoes from off thy feet, for the place whereon thou standest is holy ground.”
The reason stated is the ground where Moses stood was holy.
Common for priests to remove sandals lest dust or filth enter, thus Moses took off his shoes (IVPBBC)
The church is destined for the holy city
Rev 21:2, 10; 22:19
W/o holiness none will see the Lord (Heb 12:14)
CONCLUSION
Sum: The church we read of in the Bible is holy
Next Week: Continue thinking about the church
Until then, We encourage you to hear His precepts and trust His promises
