SPIRITUAL GIFT: Leading

[[a.k.a administrating, organizing…]]
DEF= προΐστημι (proistemi) — leading (authority); direct; guide;
Description: Planning…& equipping (organizing) others in fulfilling God’s ministry calling.
EXAMPLE: Nehemiah
Hearing of the need to rebuild the wall in Jerusalem…
Nehemiah 1.1-4 “The words of Nehemiah son of Hacaliah: During the month of Chislev in the twentieth year, when I was in the fortress city of Susa, Hanani, one of my brothers, arrived with men from Judah, and I questioned them about Jerusalem and the Jewish remnant that had survived the exile. They said to me, “The remnant in the province, who survived the exile, are in great trouble and disgrace. Jerusalem’s wall has been broken down, and its gates have been burned.” When I heard these words, I sat down and wept. I mourned for a number of days, fasting and praying before the God of the heavens.”
Nehemiah 2.1-4 “During the month of Nisan in the twentieth year of King Artaxerxes, when wine was set before him, I took the wine and gave it to the king. I had never been sad in his presence, so the king said to me, “Why do you look so sad, when you aren’t sick? This is nothing but sadness of heart.” I was overwhelmed with fear and replied to the king, “May the king live forever! Why should I not be sad when the city where my ancestors are buried lies in ruins and its gates have been destroyed by fire?” Then the king asked me, “What is your request?” So I prayed to the God of the heavens”
Attention to temporal and spiritual needs…
Nehemiah 8.7-10 “Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, and Pelaiah, who were Levites, explained the law to the people as they stood in their places. They read out of the book of the law of God, translating and giving the meaning so that the people could understand what was read. Nehemiah the governor, Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who were instructing the people said to all of them, “This day is holy to the Lord your God. Do not mourn or weep.” For all the people were weeping as they heard the words of the law. Then he said to them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the Lord is your strength.””
Nehemiah 8.11-12 “And the Levites quieted all the people, saying, “Be still, since today is holy. Don’t grieve.” Then all the people began to eat and drink, send portions, and have a great celebration, because they had understood the words that were explained to them.”

SPIRITUAL GIFT: Showing Mercy

DEF= ἐλεάω (eleao) — mercy; show mercy toward; compassion; show favor;
Description: Providing personal, emotional support to others for the sake of God’s kingdom
EXAMPLE: John
“The disciple whom Jesus loved”… universally understood as John’s self-description, shows the significance of personal, emotional connection.
John 13.23 “One of his disciples, the one Jesus loved, was reclining close beside Jesus.” [also… John 19.26; 20.2; 21.7, 20.]
The importance of love…for God and each other.
1 John 3.13-14 “Do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, if the world hates you. We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers and sisters. The one who does not love remains in death.”
1 John 4.7-11 “Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love. God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him. Love consists in this: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, if God loved us in this way, we also must love one another.” […and 1 John 4.12-19…esp. v. 19]

CONCL—

[[SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO…]]
The Biblical Basis of Every-Member Ministry [Rick Warren, TPDC, pp. 367-75]:
Every believer is a minister.
Romans 12.1-2 “Therefore, brothers and sisters, in view of the mercies of God, I urge you to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God; this is your true worship. Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.”
Every ministry is important.
Romans 12.3 “For by the grace given to me, I tell everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he should think. Instead, think sensibly, as God has distributed a measure of faith to each one.”
We are dependent on each other.
Romans 12.4-5 “Now as we have many parts in one body, and all the parts do not have the same function, in the same way we who are many are one body in Christ and individually members of one another.”
Ministry is the expression of my SHAPE.
Romans 12.6-8 “According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts: If prophecy, use it according to the proportion of one’s faith; if service, use it in service; if teaching, in teaching; if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, with generosity; leading, with diligence; showing mercy, with cheerfulness.”
[…& the other places in the Bible we find evidence for the importance of all aspects of our SHAPE.]
Looking for my spot… helping mow, teaching, singing, visiting, witnessing…et al.
Romans 12:6–8 CSB
According to the grace given to us, we have different gifts: If prophecy, use it according to the proportion of one’s faith; if service, use it in service; if teaching, in teaching; if exhorting, in exhortation; giving, with generosity; leading, with diligence; showing mercy, with cheerfulness.
