Intro and Tension

Have you ever felt that you’re in a mundane job and it doesn’t really mean anything?
Do you ever get jealous of those people, that can light up a room and seem to have so much influence?
I think sometimes, we forget the role we have as a part of God’s Church - The responsability that we hold, the influence that we can really have...
We are in a message series | The Body| We are spiritual Contributors, not Spiritual Consumers | over 5 weeks, we are unpacking what that means | Week one; Your Invited, weel two, we said that you are valuable to God’s work, in here |
This week…
Title: Who’s the Minister Here?
My Hope: Is that you will know without a shadow of a doubt that where you have been placed, you have purpose. That you will realise that we are here, to make a change out there, and that you have a responsability.
*Prayer*
Sometimes, we forget, or don’t know what our role is.
Alexis, playing Soccer, had no idea what her role was
Sometimes, we can be in here, or serve in the church, step back into mundane role and be like…is this REALLY what God wants.
Every role in a sports team is important - It’s not just huddle that’s important, it’s what happens when they go into the ground.
AFL - Tagging role. Servant Role
If I was to ask you, who is in Ministry Here, how would you answer?
Ephesians 4:11–12 ESV
And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
My Job as your pastor, is to EQUIP you, for work of MINISTRY.
I want to first break down this word “Ministry” - In the NIV, I think you’ll see “Works of SERVICE”.
The greek ERGON DAIKONIA = Service, Servant, to Serve or to Assist,
Ministry is the act and willingness to serve others in what ever role God calls you, for the purpose of Jesus Christ.
It has to start with a servant heart.
Paul puts it like this;
Galatians 5:13 ESV
For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
John 12:26 ESV
If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
Being a Pastor is a type of Ministry. Leading is a type of Ministry. Eldership is a type of Ministry. But what I hope you’ll understand is that every one, has been called to a type of ministry.
If we define serving our Lord as ministry, every time you serve our Lord, you are in ministry.
Every time you put out a chair “I’m in ministry here” | Point to christ “I’m in ministry here” | Forgive someone “I’m in ministry here”
What would happen if everyone that worked in every day jobs stepped up to do ministry there?
Born into a family, put into a job, put into a sports team, put into a church, put into a church family, you are the minister there | To serve | To love.
Paul says;
Philippians 2:4 ESV
Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
What would happen if ordinary people came up to you in your job and needed you, and you had the light and the truth of the gospel to give them?
We would be able to be the ones that STAND in times of CRISIS, What would happen if our faith was so strong, that we know money, is just a resource but not the SOURCE. God is our SOURCE, and that is where my faith is. Further, the SOURCE, lends me HIS resource, to make my RESOURCE.
God is asking - Where you are, in your job, in your home, in your friendship group, can I use you as the minister there.
The reason you are, where you are, is because you are to do ministry there.
God said, the reason I gave pastors, not to glorify them, but to equip you because the only one that should be glorified is God almighty. Pastors role is a servants role. I am here to serve you. To carry the Burden | to Serve God. To serve up delicious Food you can eat on.
Coach + Preseason, drill after drill after drill - It says
Ephesians 4:13–14 ESV
until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.
Training under 6’s C’mon God, Help me, They are tossed about - but when they get to 8, 10, 11, 12 - they can play, they are growing up - Pre season - They do drills, getting ready for what, the opposition, for GAME DAY.
So If I am to equip the saints for the WORK of MINISTRY. Your role is to come ready to be trained.
So if you are to do Ministry, what is the work we are supposed to do?
Matthew 28:18–20 ESV
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Jesus is with you.
Enemy wil try and get you out of the game but Jesus is WITH YOU.
Alexis sleeping in the bed - She just wants to be with us.
We have lived in a world of Grey for so long, and it feels that the world of Darkness is coming, which will make the light shine brighter. When you feel like you can’t do ministry any longer - Jesus is with you - He is not a departed hero, he is your living companion.
This can’t be tunnel vision though - We don’t forget our responsabilities in here - Love our brothers and sisters, bless each other, look after people in here so we can do the work out there - We need to remember we can’t pour from empty cup.
but the work
Make Disciples, the job, is to make disciples -
If we are to be known by our fruit, our actions should attract.
We are to have a GODLY influence to THOSE AROUND US.
A truth however, that I hope that you will grasp, is that you are an influencer. Society has stolen it.
Matthew 5:13–15 ESV
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house.
What does salt do? It purifies, preserves, salts adds flavour - Nudge your neighbour and say “You’re kind of salty” - Nudge neighbour, second choice “You’re shiny”.
Matthew 5:16 ESV
In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.
Culture has stolen the word “Influencer” and I would like to steal it back. Culture has made it so that influence starts with platform. Facebook, Instagram, Church.
Truthfully, I think it starts with something diferent.
True and lasting Influence always starts with people before platform.
You all have people of influence that you come into contact with every day.
What I hope you’ll understand is that influence is not always obvious, and it’s not always instant - but it could be everlasting. It’s a seed, that one day might grow. Just because your influence doesn’t have volume, doesn’t mean it’s not valuable.
You don’t need 4000 people to have a platform, just care about the 1 person in front of you.
The way you carry yourself, the way you are, your fruit, is an influence. You have no idea, how one word of encouragement, one word of love, hope, would influence someone to Jesus.
It starts with people, before platform = It says, I am to EQUIP you, to BUILD the CHURCH = We have said it enough = Not building buildings, its building people.
Church is not an organisation = it’s an organism.
We blame organisations but it was really people (they wasted my money etc)
A time, Jesus took his deciples to Caesarea Philippi - He stood in front of false God’s and prophits

Matthew 16:14–17 ESV
And they said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter replied, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus answered him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.
Peter was OPEN. OPEN to hearing from the FATHER, Are you OPEN to SERVING in different areas, have influence where ever you are.
Matthew 16:18–19 ESV
And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”
This was before Jesus’ Death | Jesus is telling them that He will defeat death and in DOING SO, Death has lost it’s power on the “Called out ones” - Woohoo.
John 14:19 ESV
Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
Death has been defeated, it has lost it’s grip on you, you have everything you need - to be the salt, and to be the light, where you are.
As you open your heart, you don’t need a platform, you need the person in front of you - God will show you how to give, how to love, how to minister to someone.
A revival is going to break out in this region in this church cmon.
5 Baptisms, Salvations, God is moving right here
**Read Text Message**
“Don’t look to the left or the right at what others are doing. Just learn to patiently sit with Jesus who loves you more than anyone on this planet and hHE knows exactly what it takes to build His Kingdom through you”
Where ever you are, you’re in ministry. God’s Disciple - Ministry.
The reason you are where you are, is because God wants Ministry done there
Our actions should attract
Influence doesn’t start with a platform, it starts with people
Matthew 28:20 ESV
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Doing it alone, is not an option.
Behold, HE IS WITH YOU. He is with you in your Hurt. He is with you in your Triumph, He is with you in your Pain, he is with you through the valley of the shadow of death, . He is not with the church organisation, church the organism. IF someone asks “I need prayer” “I need help” “I need a meal” “I need to work through some stuff” You will step forward, and be like “I can help” - I can be the salt, I can be the LIGHT.
