David is famous as one of the, if not the greatest King Israel ever had.
Under his leadreship the people, the nation and the land flourished.
We are very fortinate to see David before he was king.
The kingship of David was his purpose. It was the chif calling of his life.
But we have to understand that we do not arrive at our destination without having to travel the distance between where we are now and where we need to be.
And then even when you get to where you need to be, there is always rom for improvment in that position.
The point is, Davi did not become a king when we was made king. He became a king in his heart, actions, arttitude before he was made king.
There are few things worse than an unworthy person occupying an honerible piosition.
The attitude of today is When i am in that psition i will be all that the position requires.”
People who want to only manifest the neceserry requiremts of a position, only after they attain that position are only intrested in the power of that position anyway.
That never works, because the power in that position easily corrupts weak men.
The better way is to manifest the attributes of the position while you strive towards it.
This is true in so many levels:
Relationships
People look for a partner who they can love and trust, which is good, but its better to look for ways inwhich YOU can attract loving, trusting people.
If you are lazy and avoid work, the only people who will assiciate with you are also lazy people who avoid work and so you determine the pool of relationship oppertunities.
One of the terrible situations for today is everyone gets handed everything.
This makes people lazy and apathetic.
So they wait for the dream, vision, calling to magically materialsie in their lives.
But what they dont realise is thats its in the persut of the next step, or in the perfecting of the current step that they have to be active.
God calls people who are busy, not people looking for ways to avoid responsibility.
Moses (Ex. 3), Gideon (Judg. 6), Elisha (1 Kings 19:19–21), Nehemiah (Neh. 1), Amos (Amos 7:14–15), Peter, Andrew, James, and John (Mark 1:16–20), and Matthew (Matt. 9:9–13) were all busy when the Lord called them.
God’s pattern for leadership is stated in Matthew 25:21—“Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord” (nkjv).
Moses was a leader, but we was not busy leading when God called him - He was busy tending the flock.
Whilest he was ding this, he was manifesting the leadership role we would later enter into.
Gideon was a mighty Judge and worrier, but he weas not busy judging when God called him - he was busy threshing wheat.
Do you know why we was doing this? To save the harvest from being stolen by the Midianites, so he was working to provide for his people. Even before he is a judge he is manifesting that kind of leadership.
Elisha was a mighty prophet of God, but he was not busy prophisying when God caled him - he was busy plowing the field.
But just ploughing the field, plowing with 12 yoke of oxen - thats 24 in total.
One man, doing the work of 12. Even as a humble ploughbow, Elisha was manifesting the kind of spirit he would need as prophet.
Nehemiah was the restorer of Jeruslam, but was not busy building when God called him - he was a cup bearer to the king.
A cup bearer was the taster of all the kings drinks and meals to see if they had been posend.
Even here Nhiamah in manifesting the all in attitude we would need as Jerusalems rebuilder.
And our case in point:
David was not busy being a king when God called him - he was a shepherd of the sheep.
But that is not just sitting under a tree, as David himself says:
34 But David said to Saul, “Your servant was tending his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and took a sheep from the flock,
35 I went out after it and attacked it, and rescued the sheep from its mouth; and when it rose up against me, I grabbed it by its mane and struck it and killed it.
Again, even as a nobody shepherd, David was manifesting the skill, resolve and bravery he would need as king.
And these is great news here: None of these men had any idea what God had in stall for them.
You do not need to know the exact details of what you are aiming at, so long as you aim at that which is noble and good andf sustaining.
Because the skills you learn where you are right now, will come into play as you move towards that good and noble destination.
As David practiced with his humble sling, practing on rocks balanced, he was training to protect sheep.
He had no idea that with that simple weapon and with those practiced skills he would defeat the giant Giolath.
As David practiced with his harp, singing to no one but the sheep, he did not know that those same skills would bring im into the service of the current King, King Saul.
Every day to spend waiting on the future to arrive is a day that is waisted.
We must be busy manifesting what is needed for that future, while we work here and now. And as i said, you dont even need to know what that future it, so long as its good, noble and sustaing.
Look at your life and your responcibilities that you have right now.
Are you being faithful in all of them?
The word faithful in this verse means responcible.
Are you being responcible with all your responcabilities?
Paul says:
17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.
23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord and not for people,
3 things:
1: Do what you do as though you are doing it for God.
2: Do what you do with all your heart.
3: Do what you do always being thankful that you can do it.
