Rock of Ages

You Have Loosed My Bonds

Jason and Carmen,
Just a brief note to say it was a pleasure and honor to meet the two of you.  I believe God has blessed our church with the arrival of you and your family.  My wife spoke effusively and positively about both of you----she has a keen perceptive ability and is rarely wrong.
Again, we appreciate and enjoyed the brief meeting today.
Sincerely,
Hugh and Cindy Campbell
Parkinson is an awful disease. In a similar way to Alzheimers, it takes you before it takes you.
At times like this we look for meaning.
Our faith is tested.
Our understanding of God and of ourselves, is put to the test.
Is our love deep enough to endure?
Is God’s grace vast enough to suffice?

Hugh’s faith can guide us here

His legacy can shine a light on what we need to do now.

How we should live the rest of our lives.

The psalmist wrote,
Psalm 34:18 ESV
18 The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
The writer of the book of Hebrews said,
Hebrews 4:16 ESV
16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
And for those who wrestle with so many questions as we face the loss of a loved one, the apostle Paul wrote,
1 Corinthians 13:12 ESV
12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.

This tells us that someday, all of our questions will be answered and everything will be made clear.

One thing I am very clear on was Hugh’s love of the Lord.
Psalm 116:15–16 ESV
15 Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. 16 O Lord, I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your maidservant. You have loosed my bonds.
The assurance of seeing Trey whole one day.
One day I will see, you will see
Hugh with no wheelchair.
1 Thessalonians 4:13–15 ESV
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. 14 For since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep. 15 For this we declare to you by a word from the Lord, that we who are alive, who are left until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
Revelation 21:3–4 ESV
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. 4 He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
You all told me of Hugh’s statement to the spouses of his kids, “My hands are clean”
Well today, His hands are clean, his wounds are healed and he stands in the presence of his Lord.
I envy him today
Today, we remember the life Hugh lived on earth but, we also celebrate the life he now lives in the presence of the Lord. Where pain and suffering are no more.
He once sent me a message with a fair amount of rambling, but,
He asked one question in that message that was profound and had me praying and thinking for weeks afterward.
1 Kings 3:5 ESV
5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night, and God said, “Ask what I shall give you.”
He said, “If God woke Jason Spade up tonight, what would he ask for?”
So, Hugh, this is my answer
I would ask that I one day have people who love me like yours did. That I would leave behind a believing family as you did.
I would ask that my focus be full on the Word and my hope be in the contents of it.
One day, we will sit together and talk of those dreams.
I’ll close with these words that he sent me when Earl Davis passed a little while back.
Earl was a true gentleman in the strictest definition and use of the word. Due to no fault of his own or anyone else, an imperfect world {system} and a horrible disease afflicted Earl's earthly existence. However, blessed by the support, care, and love of his family, Earl finished his course which God had set before him. Once again he is that consumate gentleman waiting patiently for his family and friends, restored by the grace of a sovereign God.
Hugh, with the support, care and love of your family, you finished the course set before you. You were a source of encouragement and challenge. I will miss our messaging, but only for a time.
I know you too, are waiting patiently restored by the grace of our sovereign God.
