Our Freedom in Christ
1 Corinthians 6:12–13 (NIV)
“I have the right to do anything,” you say—but not everything is beneficial. “I have the right to do anything”—but I will not be mastered by anything. You say, “Food for the stomach and the stomach for food, and God will destroy them both.” The body, however, is not meant for sexual immorality but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body.
There is a foundational difference between the Old and the New Covenants. In the New Covenant, our position before the Lord is determined by our relationship and not our actions. We keep running back to the law though because it is easier than relationships.
Paul recognizes our freedom in Christ to be that we are free to do anything because the blood of Christ is sufficient to restore our position before the Lord, but not all things are beneficial. Our freedom can lead us away from the Lord and destroy our relationship with Him.
United with Sin

By his power God raised the Lord from the dead, and he will raise us also. Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ himself? Shall I then take the members of Christ and unite them with a prostitute? Never! Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body? For it is said, “The two will become one flesh.” But whoever is united with the Lord is one with him in spirit.
We are the bride of Christ, united with Him. The sin of sexual immorality unites us with our sin.
How can the relationship remain intact when the union is between two masters?

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body. Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.
The sin of sexual immorality is rooted in the pursuit of lesser things. We have been set free to pursue the Lord with all of our being, let us not settle for lesser things.
It is through the Holy Spirit that we find true pleasure, true joy, true satisfaction. To settle for anything less is to surrender our inheritance. We were bought with a price because of our worth and value, let us not hand that over for something so trivial as momentary satisfaction.
