The Spirit Interceding for you and I…Often

We are going to look at several passages today that illustrate how often and in what ways the Holy Spirit is reaching out begging to have a relationship with us...
That seems odd. A member of the Trinity is asking us to have a relationship with Him.
The Holy Spirit, Equal to the Son, wishes to speak into our lives.
Can we resist that… certainly. There were 4 other people who spoke Christ into my life. Finally the 5th time, it took. I have accepted Christ, I know now what I was missing.
I know when those 4 people talked to me about the Lord… I listened politely and shook my head and dismissed them.
You see I thought my life was great, just like it was.
Until it wasn’t...
All of us here have area’s in our life where we think we are in control it looks like we are all together and in control.
You may even hear from family, friends, coworkers, and neighbors
How together you Are!!!
And all that you feel on the inside is CHAOS!!!
It’s time to stop what your doing… It’s not working.
Find another way, change your goal, change your time table
Hmmm… For the believer, we usually after we have been worn down by the enemy.
--This enemy gives no free passes, he will attack you at night, in the morning, or mid-afternoon.
--satan and his minions are lurking… Be watchful, be waiting and be ready...
How can I, one person, battle a fallen angel, all of his minions and all of the circumstances that satan leaves us in.
his goal is that we reject God. If we reject God, satan wins
What could we possibly do to fight the battles and win the war?
— Stew and fret until our hair is sparse and very gray.
— If your are a believer, call on God to make over your situation.
— Oh… Ask the Holy Spirit to speak into your problem. Ask Him to send His warring Angels to do battle. Ask Him to stand in gap!
He will do that and more… We just have to ask in prayer, wait for his answer - sometimes a very long time, AND ACCEPT HIS ANSWER WHEN HE GIVEs IT.
I don’t want to over-spiritualize every single thing but there probably is not one situation where we should not turn to the Holy Spirit and ask for guidance.
THE HOLY SPIRIT INTERCEDES FOR US WITH THE FATHER AND THE SON.
The Holy Spirit goes directly to the Father and the Son and pleads our case to them.
In the Bible, intercession is in the form of a prayer on behalf of another.
What does scripture say about this.. listen
Romans8.26.
Romans 8:26–27 ESV
26 Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. 27 And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
I have a weakness for my 2022 Lincoln Navigator. I’ve prayed about it, but haven’t heard anything back. I’m not going to wait any longer. I’m just buying it
Sometimes when our wants/needs are so great, we simply groan in desperation. Those “groans” are somehow heard by The Spirit and He takes up our case with God, The Father. I’m not there with my 2022 Lincoln Navigator yet.
Just kidding hon… I’m not buying yet
Believer's in Christ… Or Christ’s followers, or Christians… We have access to the very Throne Room of God to come humbly towards him and to stand with the Son and The Spirit as we watch for what God is going to do.
Look at verse 27…
It seems that there is a two way street… When God, wants to say something directly to me God directs the Holy Spirit to deliver it to me, to you and to others.
WHEN WE TAP INTO THE HOLY SPIRIT… OUR LIVES WILL NEVER BE THE SAME.
I want to look at a couple of scriptural examples.
Eph6.18-20.
Ephesians 6:18–20 ESV
18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.
So, this is Paul talking to the members of the Church at Ephesus obviously from prison.
The command is pretty simple...
— So verse 18 says “praying at all times in The Spirit...”
How do you “Pray in the Spirit..?”
— First of all, You can still be a baptist and “pray in the spirit.”
— It does NOT necessarily mean that you will speak in tongues, have a Word of Faith, and run up and down the isles.
— Speaking in tongues and the required interpretation is a Spiritual Gift [as in the list of gifts]. Not everyone has the gift…
To pray in the Spirit, walk in the Spirit, and worship in the Spirit is to come before the Lord, humbly with a contrite heart. To live always with The Spirit in mind, To live for God and Christ.
Now I’m not some spiritual giant… I know some, but its not me. You and I still:
— Still wonder what God is up to
— Wonder if God even knows I’m here
— I still wonder if my prayers are being heard
WELL let me tell you… This is a bad dad joke OK...
IF you “wonder” to far you’ll get lost… [forced laughter.]
All of those questions and more are certainly valid, they each have an answer.
This answer is going to come for each one of you.
It is an individual experience… Please don’t judge me for my prayer life and the results I get, I might ask you about yours but I won’t judge you for yours.
Ephesians 6:19 ESV
19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel,
“TO BOLDLY PROCLAIM THE MYSTERY OF THE GOSPEL.”
Paul’s singular focus after the resurrection was winning others to Christ… Boldly proclaiming the Gospel.
Paul often prayed calling on God, Jesus and The Spirit.
There is a short little book at the end of the New Testament… The book of Jude
Jude 17–21 NIV
17 But, dear friends, remember what the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ foretold. 18 They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” 19 These are the people who divide you, who follow mere natural instincts and do not have the Spirit. 20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
Once we are built up in ourselves, we have a firm foundation, we have built it stone-by-stone, we have weathered storms, we have fought the fight.
Listen… Here is our battle. All of our earthly stuff is important to God, Jesus and The Spirit. But our real fight is this...
Ephesians 6:12 ESV
12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Some make this a radical attack phrase, especially in our highly political, divided and subdivided world where everyone seems to have a beef with some entity or organization.
Don’t let others get away with that… This verse
Sets out the nature of the enemy, explains further why it is that believers need the divine armor if they are to stand.
The spiritual and cosmic nature of the opposition makes such armor absolutely necessary.
C.S. Lewis has a unique perspective...
In the introduction to Screwtape Letters, the general public prefers either to ignore the forces of evil altogether—to pretend they don’t exist. —or to take an unhealthy interest in everything demonic, which can be just as bad in the long run.
This topic riles up about everyone in the pale of Christianity.
— IF you are “deep water” baptist, as Mike Kennard reminds up, any mention of The Holy Spirit returns a blank stare. Lest you be called liberal, unbiblical, take that non-sense talk somewhere else. These are uncomfortable with The Spirit and the ministry of The Spirit.
— IF you tend to be a more Pentecostal, spiritual warfare, speaking in tongues, maybe someone interprets maybe not. There is a comfortable-ness with The Spirit.
Please do realize that I am speaking a broad generalities. As there is much crossover among those who call themselves… Christian.
So you ask what is this character of our church, First Baptist? Well here I go loosing half of you’all out the back door.
I am literalist, in as much as scripture is literal. If it says it I believe it.
I am also open to any activity that is biblical.
Whew… you didn’t all leave.
IF you have questions come talk to me.
As we close today… If you hear one thing, hear this...
God sent his Son to die for the sin of world… This has set into motion all of these other pieces.
The person and work of the Son, The person and work of The Holy Spirit. All three members of the Trinity are alive and active in our world.
If you are a believer, they are working with you and for you as you interact with the world bringing the Grace and Peace of God that is only found in a relationship with Jesus Christ.
So now ladies and gentleman GO ENTER YOUR MISSION FIELD!!! Wherever God has you or maybe even around the world somewhere.
Close
Jude 24–25 ESV
24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy, 25 to the only God, our Savior, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion, and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen.
