“Christ Is…”
“Christ Is King”
For several Wednesdays now we have been working through a series I titled “Christ Is…”
It is a series on Identity. A series on Who and/or What, Christ is and should be to you and in your life. It is. A series about what He did for us, what we should learn from Him, and what He still continues to do today.
If we look at the VERY basics of Who Jesus is, John 20:31
but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
At the very basic level, the foundation of Who He is, is that of Savior and reconciler of the most important relationship we can have.
Jesus restores the communion with the Father to those that believe and call on HIs name.
But that isn’t all, and if we truly believe Scripture to be wholly true, and necessary for us to live by, than 2 Peter 3:18 says
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.
As Christians, we must abide in Him and our relationship with Him must grow DAILY!!!
YOU have a responsibility to learn more about Jesus every day. You do that by living and trusting on Him.
You do that in abiding, in reading, in praying, even in failing. You do that by living your life, and trusting Him to lead you everyday.
Here are just a few things that we could have preached about Jesus...
Jesus is the Son of God;
Jesus is the Word;
Jesus is the Love Gift of the Father for the salvation of sinners,
Jesus is the sinless Savior;
Jesus is the Word made flesh through virgin birth;
Jesus is the sacrifice given as the Lamb of God to take away the sins of the world;
Jesus is the one who in death carried the full weight and consequence of all our sins, so that we through His blood might be justified before God.
Jesus is the one who has purchased our forgiveness
Jesus is the one who heals our broken hearts
Jesus is the living Lord; resurrected from the dead.
Jesus is the victor over hell’s every power,
Jesus is the one who has ascended to the Father’s right hand
Jesus is the one worthy of all worship and praise.
Jesus is our Example
Jesus is our power
Jesus is our ransom
Jesus is intercessor
Jesus is in us and we are in Him AND
Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and THE Life
Hebrews 13:8 tells us Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, SO what we read about Him in Genesis, Revelation, or anywhere in Between is still true and relevant for your life tonight!!!
As Promised, tonight I am going to preach Christ Is King, but I want to back up a little bit from that and throw a couple more in there.
In 1923 a Pentecostal preacher by the name of Aimee Semple McPherson founded what is know as the Four Square Church.
In doctrine they are incredibly similar to what we believe…Truth is I am not sure there are any differences doctrinally.
So, the 4 Square church was founded, and named based on the belief of the 4 square gospel.
In short it says that Jesus is the Savior, the Baptizer (in the Holy Spirit), the Healer, and the soon coming King.
I. Savior –

b. Saved by His Grace Ephesians 2:8-9
c. Saved by His Name Acts 4:12
d. Saved to Proclaim John 4:28-30

ii. THE Savior
II. Baptizer – Luke 3:16

b. Acts 1:8
c. How do we receive the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?
It’s simple.
All we have to do is ask!
If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
Dr. R.A. Torrey wrote, “The infilling of the Holy Spirit is a Definite And Distinct Experience.A Christian will know if he has received the Spirit or not.”
The Outpouring of the Spirit is not a Special Blessing for a Special Few in a Special Age.
“And it shall come to pass afterward,
that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh;
your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams,
and your young men shall see visions.
Even on the male and female servants
in those days I will pour out my Spirit.
This began at Pentecost and will continue until Jesus returns!
IT IS FOR ALL who have Truly Repented And Believed that Jesus is Savior.
d. WE NEED THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THIS DAY AND AGE TO SEE SOULS CHANGED, AND JESUS IS ITCHING TO BAPTIZE ALL THAT WILL ASK, BELIEVE, AND WAIT FOR THE PROMISE
III. Healer

Travel back 200 years in Christian history to John Newton, the slave-traderturned-pastor and hymn writer. He would receive almost unbelievable answers to his prayers because he believed in what he called “large asking.” When explaining what he meant, Newton would often cite a legendary story of a man who asked Alexander the Great to give him a huge sum of money in exchange for his daughter’s hand in marriage. Alexander agreed, and told the man to request of Alexander’s treasurer whatever he wanted. So, the father of the bride went and asked for an enormous amount. The treasurer was startled and said he could not give out that kind of money without a direct order. Going to Alexander, the treasurer argued that even a small fraction of the money requested would more than serve the purpose.
“No,” replied Alexander, “let him have it all. I like that fellow. He does me honor. He treats me like a king and proves by what he asks that he believes me to be both rich and generous.”
Newton concluded: “In the same way, we should go to the throne of God’s grace and present petitions that express honorable views of the love, riches, and bounty of our King.”
iii. Romans 8:14-17
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
iv. 1 John 3:1
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
Knowing those things why would we do anything short of treating Him like a Father that loves us and will give us our hearts desires and our bodies needs!
d. He Paid the Price For Our Healing
i. 1 Peter 2:24
He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
IV. King - John 18:36
Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting, that I might not be delivered over to the Jews. But my kingdom is not from the world.”
a. The Prophesied King
i. Micah 5:2
But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
who are too little to be among the clans of Judah,
from you shall come forth for me
one who is to be ruler in Israel,
whose coming forth is from of old,
from ancient days.
ii. Isaiah 9:6-7
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
b. The Afflicted King
i. John 19:1-3
Then Pilate took Jesus and flogged him. And the soldiers twisted together a crown of thorns and put it on his head and arrayed him in a purple robe. They came up to him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” and struck him with their hands.
c. The Ascended King
i. Acts 5:30-32
The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree. God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.”
d. The Worshipped King
i. Revelation 4:8-10
And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,
“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,
who was and is and is to come!”
And whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to him who is seated on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who is seated on the throne and worship him who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne, saying,
e. The Coming King
i. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.
f. The Conquering King
i. Revelation 19:11-16
Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.
