finding joy, peace, and security
where do we find it?
In this world?
Living in relationship with God gives us great security.
One, in our relationship with God. God will not send us away.
Two, Security in the midst of the unknowns in this world. We have security in situations of life because God is with us.

Not changed by Achievement (Gal 3:1-3)

Testimony
I was struggling with my relationship with God because I was not seeing the fruit in my life and ministry and believed that God was disappointed with me.
My feelings were based on my insecurity and expectations.
Sabbatical
Reading “Soul Keeping”
Soul Keeping: Caring For the Most Important Part of You (10. The Soul Needs to Be With God)
When the soul is with God it doesn’t matter if you are a dishwasher or a president. The soul thrives not through our accomplishments but through simply being with God.
Soul Keeping: Caring For the Most Important Part of You (3. A Soul-Challenged World)
“What matters is not the accomplishments you achieve; what matters is the person you become.”
I was basing my relationship with God on my ability to achieve certain accomplishment or maintain a certain lifestyle.
Our security in our relationship is not based on our accomplishments, but on Jesus.
Relationship is because of Jesus, not personal accomplishment
Galatians 3:1–3 (ESV)
1 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?
Receive the Spirit through Faith not Works.
Are we perfected by our works?
No, we start our relationship with Jesus and abide with Jesus.
Titus 3:4–7 (ESV)
4 But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
John 15:4–5 (ESV)
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.
Our security in our relationship with God is not based upon our achievement, but Jesus. We are fully accepted by God through Jesus Christ.

Not changed by Circumstances (Rom 8:31-36)

Chaos in our lives and the World.
Circumstances will not change our relationship with God, but we have security in chaos because of our relationship with God.
Romans 8:31–36 (ESV)
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? 33 Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
Security that God will provide
Romans 8:31–32 (ESV)
31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
No matter what the situation is in our lives and the world, we have an incredible security because we are in relationship with God.
Security that God will protect
Romans 8:35–36 (ESV)
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.”
Our situation will not separate us from God.
Living in relationship with God gives us great level of security in the chaos of this world.

Secure in Christ (Eph 1:3)

Our security is because we are in Christ.
Ephesians 1:3 (ESV)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places,
In Christ - a phrase used by Paul to describe the union between Christ and the individual believer in Him.
Galatians 2:20 (ESV)
20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Romans 6:3–4 (ESV)
3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
We are in Christ and will not be separated from Him. Our greatest security in this world is through our union with Jesus.

Secure in God’s Love (Rom 8:37-39)

We are eternally loved by God.
Romans 8:37–39 (ESV)
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
God so loved us that nothing could separate us from His love.
Nothing can separate us from the Love of God. (Physical or Spiritual)
The good news (Gospel) is that we are in relationship with God through Jesus Christ and that there is nothing that could separate us from Him. There is great peace and security in our relationship with God and gives great peace and security in the world in which we live.

Summary

Morning and Evening (Morning, September 23)
“Accepted in the beloved.”—Ephesians 1:6 What a state of privilege! It includes our justification before God, but the term “acceptance” in the Greek means more than that. It signifies that we are the objects of divine complacence, nay, even of divine delight. How marvellous that we, worms, mortals, sinners, should be the objects of divine love! But it is only “in the beloved.” Some Christians seem to be accepted in their own experience, at least, that is their apprehension. When their spirit is lively, and their hopes bright, they think God accepts them, for they feel so high, so heavenly-minded, so drawn above the earth! But when their souls cleave to the dust, they are the victims of the fear that they are no longer accepted. If they could but see that all their high joys do not exalt them, and all their low despondencies do not really depress them in their Father’s sight, but that they stand accepted in One who never alters, in One who is always the beloved of God, always perfect, always without spot or wrinkle, or any such thing, how much happier they would be, and how much more they would honour the Saviour! Rejoice then, believer, in this: thou art accepted “in the beloved.” Thou lookest within, and thou sayest, “There is nothing acceptable here!” But look at Christ, and see if there is not everything acceptable there. Thy sins trouble thee; but God has cast thy sins behind his back, and thou art accepted in the Righteous One. Thou hast to fight with corruption, and to wrestle with temptation, but thou art already accepted in him who has overcome the powers of evil. The devil tempts thee; be of good cheer, he cannot destroy thee, for thou art accepted in him who has broken Satan’s head. Know by full assurance thy glorious standing. Even glorified souls are not more accepted than thou art. They are only accepted in heaven “in the beloved,” and thou art even now accepted in Christ after the same manner.
