That You May Know: Blessed Assurance: (1 John 3:19-24)
Sermon Idea: As John works through the second cycle of tests which help the Christian
to know that they have eternal life.
He comes to the present section which is directly
connected to the prior section in vs. 11-18, where love was seen as the objective test of a
true Christian profession (a lifestyle of love in action).
John desires to provide assurance
to overactive consciences, which has the potential to beleaguer and discourage making it
difficult for an individual to have a settled confidence in a right standing before God.
So,
he attempts to encourage believers and enable them to accurately evaluate their own
spiritual condition.
