John 10:22–42 (NASB95)
22 At that time the Feast of the Dedication took place at Jerusalem;
23 it was winter, and Jesus was walking in the temple in the portico (poor-ti-cao) of Solomon.
24 The Jews then gathered around Him, and were saying to Him, “How long will You keep us in suspense? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.”
25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.
26 “But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep.
27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.
29 “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
30 “I and the Father are one.”
31 The Jews picked up stones again to stone Him.
32 Jesus answered them, “I showed you many good works from the Father; for which of them are you stoning Me?”
33 The Jews answered Him, “For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy; and because You, being a man, make Yourself out to be God.”
34 Jesus answered them, “Has it not been written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’?
35 “If he called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),
36 do you say of Him, whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, ‘You are blaspheming,’ because I said, ‘I am the Son of God’?
37 “If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;
38 but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.”
39 Therefore they were seeking again to seize Him, and He eluded their grasp.
40 And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was first baptizing, and He was staying there.
41 Many came to Him and were saying, “While John performed no sign, yet everything John said about this man was true.”
42 Many believed in Him there.
v.22-24

The Jews seem to get frustrated
They surrounded Jesus, the Greek with hotel paints this is to surround with hostile inten

this reminds me of this verse.
11 They surrounded me, yes, they surrounded me;
In the name of the Lord I will surely cut them off.
These Jews are challenging Jesus. with “Just tell us who you are, are you the Christ
lets keep in mind that they attempted to kill Jesus for saying that He was the Son of God,
These Jews know what Jesus has already said about Himself and He has shown who He is.
What was Jesus’ response?
V. 25-26

25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me.
26 “But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep.
Jesus has already told them who He was, not only did He say who He was, but He has shown who He is.
But they do not believe
There is nothing anyone can do to an unbelieving heart.
Jesus also says that they don't believe because they are not His sheep.
remember what Jesus had said earlier.
v.27-29

27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me;
28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand.
29 “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
Jesus repeats Himself His sheep know Him
Jesus explains that He will give them eternal life, and they will never perish
the Greek says never “ever” will perish
This explains the understanding of
“once saved always save”.................
NO one, who is in Christ can be taken away.

30 “I and the Father are one.”
Jesus again says who He is. He said again that Him and the Father are one.

These Jews revived there answer, and look at what they do.
They want to kill Jesus
Jesus says He did works to show them who He is and after telling them planey they want to kill Him
The pride.
The Jews wanted to kill Jesus based on His statement that He is God.
v.34-36

What does this mean?
A Psalm of Asaph.
1 God takes His stand in His own congregation;
He judges in the midst of the rulers.
2 How long will you judge unjustly
And show partiality to the wicked?

3 Vindicate the weak and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and destitute.
4 Rescue the weak and needy;
Deliver them out of the hand of the wicked.
5 They do not know nor do they understand;
They walk about in darkness;
All the foundations of the earth are shaken.
6 I said, “You are gods,
And all of you are sons of the Most High.
7 “Nevertheless you will die like men
And fall like any one of the princes.”
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth!
For it is You who possesses all the nations.
Doesn't this Psalm sound the same as Ezekiel 35?
rulers - gods Different translations (El-ho-him)
is used in the Hebrew text.
the did god mean
gods could be refers to anglic beings who had power over Israel
People of Israel who were giving out the law
judges of Israel who was given authority but failed
This text is not the text of empowerment, but of shame.
So Jesus brings this text up.
They were suppose to be God’s representive for God
v.37-38

37 “If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;
38 but if I do them, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, so that you may know and understand that the Father is in Me, and I in the Father.”
Jesus spoke the truth
if Jesus did not do the work of God, then don’t believe Him
but he does the very work of God.
not only did Jesus say He is God, but showed His work
v.39-40

Even after all this
Jesus leaves and goes back to where John baptized. He went away from the religious folk
41 Many came to Him and were saying, “While John performed no sign, yet everything John said about this man was true.”
42 Many believed in Him there.
People believed.
Jesus went away from the religious folk.
but people still believed
Let us not forget the reason all of this with being written.
31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
Jesus explained that His sheep hear His voice, and are in Him.
These Jews, these religious folk, did not belive in Jesus but there own power, and privilege , and for this reason they will die in there sins.
