January 10
Opening Prayer
God you are the Shepherd of my soul.
Help me to hear your voice and follow your ways.
May your goodness and peace be my dwelling place forever.
Psalm 10
Listening for God’s Reply
Even the athiest is troubled by the march of the wicked.
The anarchist seeks restitution for what has been stolen.
Anyone can see the irony of those who dismiss God becuase of the violence and sin present in this world.
The believer struggles listening for God’s reply.
“God, why are you so far away?
I can’t hear you?
I don’t see you?”
Is God hiding from us in our time of trouble?
Why does he wait?
Our list of grievances against the wicked is long.
Trouble overwhelms us.
“God you are coming, right?”
The evil laugh at God they revel in their rebellion.
They even mock us for our right living.
They are getting away with slander.
“It’s not fair!” we cry.
The innocent are victims and no one steps into help.
Where has our God gone?
Will he make it in time to bring justice into the world?
We are all ears, listening for God.
He answers with a baby, a son, a cross, and an empty tomb.
God answers every cry with a name, “Jesus.”
Prayer
Father thank you for sending your son to save me.
When I am discouraged I see your love through the sacrifice of your son.
He died so that I might live.
God I pray for the victims of injustice.
I know you supply all our needs.
May your justice truly roll through our world and bring your kingdom of peace and love.
May I live in such a way that others see Jesus in me.
Amen.
