Matthew 9: 32-38 Lord of all or prince of demons.
Matthew will recap Jesus ministry and set us up for the sending out of the disciples next week.
The former blind men just left, now a man another man is brought to Jesus, he is mute he can’t speak. A demon was causing him to be mute. There is no talk about the man faith or what he was thinking about Jesus like a commtery wrote: PPT - Matthew does not tell us what Jesus said or did, only that the demon was cast out of the man and Jesus did it. That causes the crowd to go wild.
“Never was anything like this seen in Israel”! – They responded, - a great sign. What power. The crowd is marveling at Jesus. – Again, as a said it confirms identity as the Messiah, - PPT form Is 35:5-6. God will come and save. -Jesus is God. The promised one as Matthew has been saying form the beginning of his gospel.
Not all respond that way to Jesus. The Pharisees said, He casts out demons by the prince of demons. (Jesus will deal with this nonsense argument in chapter 12:25-32). In short if Jesus controls the prince of demons, is he the king of demons? Or can order demons around, he would be more powerful that them. But in any case, the Pharisees are not giving Jesus any praise for what he did. – Instead calling him a demon king. I mean Jesus is Lord over all -therefore also Lord and king over demons, but I don’t think that is what the Pharisees meant. The properly meant that Jesus was filed by a demon.
But what spirt is in Jesus? A demon or the Spirt of God the Holy Spirt?
Jesus has hard words to any that would put down or mock the Spirt in Him. That is a sin that will not be forgiven. Jesus defends the Holy Spirt, - You are not only wrong but very wrong. What you say is that I am more powerful that the demons, and the if I can command the demon king to do something, I am more powerful that He.
Some people will not listen even to Jesus, so when you talk about Jesus or why you live your life like you do, people might not respond to your words or they might respond in pride like the Pharisees did - PPT Matthew H. Cometary about the proud. (People will start to attack you, instead, like we saw they did to Jesus, - but we have to recall that is a blessing, -they don’t hate you but God. But you are filled by him if you’re a Christian). The what do we do, we pray for God to move in people hearts, minds and soul, only God can change people, by his Holy Spirt.
(There is many Pharisees today, they might not have anything to do with religion but have their own, and judge people accordingly, If you don’t do this or if you think or believe this then your evil or mean, LBTQ+? Athitics fellowship, politicians, and famous people, we are tolerant and diverse, but you have to think just like me, or your mean and evil?). You should lose your job not be able to teach kids, because you don’t think and believe like me.
The strange thing is that our world seems to have many Pharisees, or people under the power of pride, not able or willing to accept Jesus as Lord, or even trust in God, then their life will be a battel against him, and any one that would remind them about Him. The people under the power of pride they are blind, they are deaf and mute and don’t know it just like the Pharisees, Jesus like we read came too many to preach and share the good news about God’s kingdom, not the kingdom of man, to the poor, the rich, the strong the weak. Today like them do wee heed Jesus words about depending on God for everything not our self.
2. part.
Matthew sums up a Jesus ministry in verse 35. Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the kingdom (of God), and healing evert disease and affection (Letting people see what the kingdom looks (like restored). /the blessed hope. All things restored to God.
Jesus saw, this has become a them in Matthew that Jesus sees, - the people in need of him. (more seen by God, 7.8 million but seen and known by God that crated you).
Here Jesus sees the crowds, not only sees but has compassion on them, because they were helpless and harassed, - in a picture like sheep without a shepherd, - lost and wandering in to all kinds of trouble and getting eaten, and lured away. Just like people today. /Do I do we have compassion, on people or just think they are stupid, or evil wrong, they are but they are also blind, mute, lame, and lost in pride shame, guilt, - Yelling at a deaf man does not make him hear, or blind see, or lost found. Compassion and a heart for people like Jesus, that might. Help us engage our world and people in it instead of getting mad, and frustrated and loose heart, it is not about what the world is like at this moment but what God can do in the world and in people, our hope is in Christ Jesus.
But what has gone wrong in Jesus time and now? Jesus went and talked with Matthew and other sinners, but the leaders and spiritual leaders in Israel, might have been more concerned about power, influence, riches, and neglected to real shepherds of god’s people. And we saw how they respond to Jesus that he had a demon.
After seeing and having compassion on the crowds and their condition, Jesus tells his disciples to pray to the Lord of the harvest God, because the harvest is plentiful, but there are few workers, (then and today, - God is working, and many need to hear the good news, it is good to pray for works for the harvest and God can send them, some are you have been in our fellowship, we prayed and you came, to love serve the people here to show the kingdom and have the Lord of the harvest use you in this place to harvest his crop. And in the coming weeks Jesus will send people out.
It is like Matthew makes and end here or a summation – this was how Jesus healed and is the Christ Lord over the Physical (bind, lame, mute, leper, unclean) and Spiritual, (unclean, demons) Nature (Sea and wind), Death and live (The girl back to life) He is like Matthew said from the Beginning Christ. And then Matthew starts a different focus in the coming weeks, sending out workers to the harvest.
Land the plane, - gospel, trust in Jesus not world.
