“ The Formula of Praising God “
Subtitle : A Praise that changes Everything “
PSALM 34:1 was birth
While David was under
Pressure
Note: And you have to learn how to praise God while under pressure.
David writes a few Psalms like [ Psalm 23 — Psalm 27Psalm 34 ]
That have really helped
countless of Christians
make it through some rough and tough times
As David writes Psalm 34 :1
he writes it with
no doubt in his mind
That he’s going to
Praise the Lord
No matter what happens from now on in Life
David gave thanks
to the Lord
by magnifying Him
and exalting His name
Because of what
God did for David:
Verses 4,15 — He answered prayer
Verses 9-10 — provided his needs
Verse 17 — delivered him from trouble
Verse 7 — and protected him from danger
[ There’s 3 things that David writes about Psalm 34:1 ]
1st. David is CLEAR about what he’s going to do ( “ I will bless “ )
2nd. David is CERTAIN who he’s going to do it to ( “ bless the Lord “ )
3rd. David is going to be CONSISTENT with his praise to ( “ at all times “ )
1st. David is CLEAR about what he’s going to do ( “ I will bless “ )
“ I will bless “
Define: Bless — ( Hebrew “ Barak “ ) — to knee
I’m not just going to bless the Lord
with my lips
but I’m going to bend my knees
David has made a conscious decision
that this is what I’m going to do
I’m not going to worry
I’m not going to stress
I’m not going to have a pity party
I’m going to bless
1st. David is CLEAR about what he’s going to do ( “ I will bless “ )
2nd. David is CERTAIN who he’s going to do it to ( “ the Lord “ )
“ Bless the Lord “
I’m NOT going to give my praise to anybody else
Because can’t NOBODY do me like the Lord.
David is saying I don’t have to wonder how I made it
1st. David is CLEAR about what he’s going to do ( “ I will bless “ )
2nd. David is CERTAIN who he’s going to do it to ( “ the Lord “ )
3rd. David is going to be CONSISTENT with his praise ( “ at all times “ )
“ At all times “
After all what David has been thru
Nobody or Nothing
will stop his continual
praise to God
In other words
David tells God ( “ At all times “ )
Note: Praise is giving God His Breath back to Him
Note: David was not going to vacillate like church folks do from Sunday to Sunday . ( Consistent )
Verse 1 or line 1 as amazing as those words are
What’s more impressive is WHEN David spoke those words.
As awesome as the content of verse one is.
The context of which the content is spoken is even more impressive.
Because you can't judge a person or a thing solely on content.
But if you really want to understand how powerful something is.
You have to weigh the content up against the context.
EXAMPLE: it's easy to say you have faith in God when your faith is not being challenge or tested.
If you really want to judge the quality or the fact of something.
Look at the content & the context.
EXAMPLE:
Job 1:20-22
20 Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, 21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, And naked shall I return thither: The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord. 22 In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.
What's awesome about Job's testimony.
Is when you weigh the CONTENT of what Job said.
Up against the CONTEXT of what Job is going through.
You see his worship to God is authentic
In this particular text what makes Psalm 34:1 even more powerful.
Is understanding what David is going through at this time.
David says I'm going to bless the Lord at all times and his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
What makes these words so powerful is that David is under attack.
When you read 1st. Samuel chapter 21 & chapter 22
It makes up the context of the content in Psalm 34.
David has been chased by Saul.
David is living from cave to cave.
David is running for his life.
1st. Samuel chapter 21 & chapter 22
David is under attack.
He don't know who to trust.
Everywhere he turns the enemy is after him.
Matter of fact the only way David survive.
Is that David had to walk in the camp of the Philistines
Note: Sometimes survival is predicated on the enemies camp
( Psalm 23 — “ sheep through the valley of the shadow of death “ )
David threw himself on the mercy of king Abimelech
And the only reason the king saved him.
Is because David pretended that he had lost his mind.
David had to act crazy.
And when David was spared by the hand of the king.
David wrote these words to Psalm 34.
This praise came out of David's pressure.
Note: Anybody can praise God when you’re not going thru nothing.
Note: But can you “ TOWDAH PRAISE “ God when everything has gone wrong.
David has a personal Testimony ( 34:1-10 )
David has a personal Teaching ( 34:11-22 )
Verses 1-3 — David Bless the Lord
Verses 4-8 — David Sought the Lord
Verses 9-16 — David Feared the Lord
Verses 17-22 — David Trusted the Lord
David understood that if he was going to get delivered out of this situation.
That it was ONLY going to be God to do it.
And when God did it.
David had a Formula for his praise
1st. David had a CONTINUOUS praise ( V. 1 )
Verse 1
David pressure did not produce praise
But David's pressure perfected his praise.
David’s praise was perpetual
Note: Just like this coronavirus is continuing we have to have a continuous praise.
Note: A lot of church folks praise is being expose that it’s not authentic.
Note: Because before the pandemic you didn’t hear the church folks say to much about God & praising God.
Note: But now sense the pandemic is here there’s a whole lot of talk & praise about God at Walmart.
David at this time have been through some stuff
But David’s praise is not builded off of material things
His praise is not builded off survival
His praise is not builded off of possessions
His praise is BUILDED off of God’s PRESENCE
His praise is not builded off of material things
But his praise is builded off of that “ I should have been dead a long time ago “
His praise was builded off the Lord has KEPT him
The BEAR
The LION
The GAINT GOLIATH
From Saul
From Saul’s spear
The King of the Philistines should have taking him out
David knows that “ GOODNESS & MERCY have been following me all the days of my life “ Note: Praise is not what I do — Praise is who I AM David is saying.
1st: David had a CONTINUOUS praise ( V. 1 )
2nd: David had a CONVINCING praise ( V. 2 )
Verse 2
David is saying something in me got HAPPY
And the something in me has an affect on people around me
David is saying somebody was listening at me & looking at me
And they was looking to see
If my anointing was aligned with my actions
Because of your pandemic praise
People can’t tell what you’re going through
Note: Your praise want mean NOTHING to God until it means everything to you.
Note: David says “ My Soul “ is the core of who I AM
Who I AM is not the clothes I’m wearing
Who I AM is not the Truck I’m driving
Who I AM is not the Watch I’m wearing
Who I AM is not the Job I work at
Who I AM is not the church I go to
Note: David says down in my soul
Note: When your soul magnify the Lord you don’t care what people say
1st: David had a Continuous praise (v.1)
2nd: David had a Convincing praise (v.2)
3rd: David had a Contagious praise (v.3)
Verse 3
Note: This pandemic is contagious
Note: Everything in the world whether good or bad can be contagious
One person Earring in the noise ( contagious ) One person Earring in the eyebrow ( contagious ) One person Earring in the belly button ( contagious ) One person starts wear wigs ( contagious ) One person go to gym & lose weight ( contagious )
Note: But when it comes down to the church everything becomes isolated
Most people who is contagious are quarantine
They can’t be in the general population
Most people that are contagious has to be locked up in a room with other contagious people or all by themselves.
But when you are infected with the Holy Ghost
He want your infections to have an affection on other people
Verse 1: David is praising God by himself
Note: Because people might know how good God is but they have no idea how good God’s been to David & to you
Verse 3: David praise affected others
