Part 1

Luke 3:16 NLT
John answered their questions by saying, “I baptize you with water; but someone is coming soon who is greater than I am—so much greater that I’m not even worthy to be his slave and untie the straps of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.
John 1:33 NLT
I didn’t know he was the one, but when God sent me to baptize with water, he told me, ‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’
John prophecies of Him who would come and says he did not know of whom he spoke until the he saw the Holy Spirit descending upon
Wait
Acts 1:4–5 NLT
Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
There is an experience called the “Baptism with the Holy Spirit
John - He will baptize you & Jesus is the one
The baptism with the Holy Spirit is separate and distinct from regeneration
Born of the Spirit vs baptized with the HS
John 20:22 NLT
Then he breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.
They received - not just symbolic! No Scriptural support
Nothing shows that they did not receive! Is it possible for Jesus to say that and it not happen?
Acts 1:4–5 KJV 1900
And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me. For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.
Water (John) vs. HS
1 Corinthians 12:13 NLT
Some of us are Jews, some are Gentiles, some are slaves, and some are free. But we have all been baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we all share the same Spirit.
By the Spirit into 1 body - Spirit baptizing you into the body of Christ
Jesus is the one who baptizes with the Holy Spirit
Arguments:
Ephesians 4:4–6 NLT
For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.
One baptism - Ephesians to keep the unity of the Spirit - he is referring to only one body of Christ
Paul warning about denominational divisions
Requirements for new baptism - Lutheran - Church of Christ - etc, etc, etc
If you want to move need baptized again into our church!
That brings division to the body
There is water baptism - by Pastor - in water
There is Spirit baptism, as John said “He” Jesus will baptize you - in the Holy Spirit
3 Greek words used in relationship to the Holy Spirit
John 14 He comforts them about His leaving - God will give you another
John 14:17 NLT
He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth. The world cannot receive him, because it isn’t looking for him and doesn’t recognize him. But you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you.
Dwelling with you - Para but He is going to dwell “in” you
Prior to your conversion - The Holy Spirit was working with you to accept Christ - When you received Christ the Holy Spirit indwelt you - not the baptism of the Holy Spirit
He is now in you conforming you into the image of Jesus Christ
The working of God’s Spirit in my
1 Corinthians 12:3 NLT
So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 6:19 NKJV
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
The Holy Spirit indwells in every Born Again believer - you are born again by the Spirit
Not every believer haas the baptism of the Holy Spirit!
The Scripture shows us many examples of individuals that had not been baptized with the HS but subsequent to there initial experience of believing
With you as He convicts you and brings you to Christ- in you - The moment you accepted He indwells you conforming you into the image of Christ
The third word is the word upon
Acts Jesus told them to wait until the Spirit came “upon” them
Acts 1:8 NLT
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Hape - overflows you! Empowering of the believer for service
The dwelling in me work of the Holy Spirit is that which is happening in to transform us to the image of Christ
The work here is the “outward” release of the empowerment of the Holy Spirt - the flowing forth of the inward power!
The power of God’s Spirit working through my life to touch the lives of others around me
Para - en - Hapee
Empty glass example
John 7:37–39 NLT
On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart.’ ” (When he said “living water,” he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him. But the Spirit had not yet been given, because Jesus had not yet entered into his glory.)
Flow from his heart! - torrents - What would flow from them - :this He spoke concerning the Holy Spirit
Speaking to the Ephesians Paul commanded them,
Ephesians 5:18–20 NLT
Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Be filled is a Present Perfect tense meaning - be ye being filled with the Spirit - continually filled
We should be overflowing with the Holy Spirit
Many people have the Spirit all bottled up inside, content with just being nominal Christians
Being a part of the team but never getting in the game!
On the day of Pentacost - Peter was empowered - Supernatural event - What should we do?
Repent - be baptized, the HS in your life - and you shall receive the “Gift” of the Holy Spirit
Acts 2:38–39 NLT
Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. This promise is to you, to your children, and to those far away—all who have been called by the Lord our God.”
We see the 3 stages here again!
Of whom is he speaking? verse 39
No indication that the gift would cease!
There is a promise to you, your children, and those who are afar off!
The promise is for us today!
Satan has squashed the ministry of the Holy Spirit so believers would only be a part of the team but not in the game!
The powers of darkness are overtaking the world yet we have greater power than they will ever muster
1 Peter 3:22 NLT
Now Christ has gone to heaven. He is seated in the place of honor next to God, and all the angels and authorities and powers accept his authority.
Ephesians 1:21 NLT
Now he is far above any ruler or authority or power or leader or anything else—not only in this world but also in the world to come.
It is no wonder that the enemy does not want the solders of the Cross to know the real authority and tools they have to be guaranteed a win over the kingdom of darkness!
Can’t you feel it rising inside you as you worship?
God is calling you off the bench today and to put forth your hand and see the deliverance of your God!
The baptism of the Holy Spirit is not an end-all experience but rather the initial experience into a vast new world of the Spiritual realm!
2 Corinthians 10:4 NLT
We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.
How in the world can we do battle in the spiritual realm without Spiritual tools!
We ned now more than ever the empowerment of the Holy Spirit
They walked in the Spirit - led by the Spirit - empowered by the Spirit
Most Christians are like wet noodles not steel beams!
Many have turned the Word of God into gift certificates too pamper their pen needs instead of it being a shield pf protection in the time of battle!
Let me ask you…what do you want today from God?
Is there a burning deep inside for the release of the power of God in your life?
Let us shake off the chains of the fear of man and allow the Holy Spirit to take control of this meeting!
As we worship, do not be afraid to let the Holy Spirit bring forth a new work in your life.
