But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire. KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS Matthew 3:16–17 (NIV) — 16 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Jesus Being Baptized With The Holy Spirit – As The Spirit Anoints, Appoints, And Empowers Him For Ministry. KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS oJesus needed to be baptized with power before He began his ministry --How much more do we need to be baptized with the Spirit of God to empower us today? oWe Need The Spirit’s Empowerment Today oWe Need An Overflow! KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS The Last Words Of Jesus In Luke’s Gospel: oLuke 24:49 (NIV84) — 49 I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” oJesus Was Getting The Early Church Ready For Their Assignment He Let Them Know Of A Coming Overflow KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS Acts 1:4–5 (NIV) — 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” oJesus commanded them to wait for the baptism in the Holy Spirit KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS Acts 1:7–9 (NIV) — 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” 9 After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. Acts 1:10–11 (NIV) — 10 They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11 “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? Spirit KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS You Need Something To Give Your Spirit The Ability To Assume Control Something Has To Happen To Your Body And Soul Before That Can Happen That Something Is The Overflow -- The Holy Spirit Living In You Needs To Flow Out -- To Overflow KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS This Event Is Described Many Times In Scripture It Is Shown In Scripture To Be A 2nd Experience Beyond Salvation KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS THE OVERFLOW OF THE SPIRIT = "The Baptism In The Holy Spirit" "Receiving The Holy Spirit" "Receiving The Power" "Holy Spirit Coming Upon You " The Holy Spirit Falling On You" KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS The Overflow -- The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit -- Is A Flooding Of The Soul And Body By The Holy Spirit (John 7:37 NIV) On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, "If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. (38) Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.“ (39) By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. He Is A Person -- He Is Either In You -- Or He Is Not The Person Of The Holy Spirit Has Been Living In You Since Your Salvation The Next Step For You Is To Fully Acknowledge His Presence And Receive His Gift Of Holy Spirit Baptism KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS The Overflow Of The Spirit (The Holy Spirit's Baptism) Can Be Compared To An Irrigation System In An Arid Climate When The Holy Spirit Baptizes Us: oWe Are Refreshed As The Junk In Our Lives Is Washed Away oThe Spill Over Of The Spirit Effects Our Minds And Bodies oThe Living Water Of The Holy Spirit Begins To Pour Out On Those Around Us Giving Us New Life, Strength & Power To Live For Him KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS How Important Is It To Receive The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit God Has Provided It Jesus Himself Received It He Commanded His Disciples Not To Proceed Without It KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS Every Christian Should Receive The Baptism In The Holy Spirit The Baptism Helps Us To Pray Effectively The Baptism In The Spirit Happens Following Our Salvation KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit Is A Gift With An Evidence (Acts 2:4 NIV) All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Speaking In Tongues Is The Initial Evidence That A Person Has Been Baptized In The Holy Spirit KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS The Early Believers Had A Way Of Telling Immediately Whether Or Not Their Converts Had Received The Holy Spirit -- It Was Whether They Had Spoken In Tongues Speaking In Tongues Was Considered By New Testament Christians As A God-given Sign Accompanying The Baptism In The Holy Spirit KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS That Sign And Evidence Remains The Same Today How Do You Know If You Are Filled? Have You Spoken In Other Tongues As The Lord Has Given You The Utterance? Speaking In Tongues Is The Sign Of The Baptism Of The Holy Spirit KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS Speaking In Tongues Is A Supernatural Manifestation Of The Holy Spirit It Is A Spirit Inspired Vocalization And Set Of Words – Where The Believer Speaks In A Language They Have Never Learned The Holy Spirit Gives That Language To Them KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS The Gift Of Tongues Has Two Main Purposes In A Public Worship Service... Tongues Is Used To Communicate A Message Speaking In Tongues Is Used By The Believer To Speak To God In His Or Her Own Personal Devotions And Thus To Build Up One's Spiritual Life KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS Speaking In Tongues Is Prayer With Or Prayer In The Spirit It Is Our Spirit And Our Tongue -- Speaking To God -- Inspired By The Holy Spirit It Is A Language That Is Known And Understood KINGDOM OVERFLOW THE GIFT TO BELIEVERS Speaking In Tongues Is Prayer Offered To God Which By-passes Our Mental Limitations: Through The Baptism In The H.S.
