Evening and Morning
Today we will wrap up the crucifixion and resurrection.
We are in the last of looking at the 3 parts of this defining moment in humanity and creation.
Jesus’ Perspective (Answer me LORD) (Ps 22)
The Father’s Perspective (The LORD answers) (Ps 91)
Jesus’ Response (Response to the LORD) (Ps 22)
Again, we are going to just break down the story.
But, we are going to get an intro into the next primary topic.
As I said, I usually like to find the wisdom principle in the text that we can take into our life and incorporate.
But today, I want to concentrate on something that Jesus will do for you that might change your perspective of yourself and others.
So, we will quickly close out the Psalm 22 portion and move into the resurrection narrative.
Save me from the mouth of the lion!
From the horns of the wild oxen,
you have answered me
(Psalm 22:21)
Now, did Jesus utter these words?
Maybe.
He referenced this Psalm in his cries to the Father.
So this Psalm is in his mind, it is likely this is the Psalm HE IS PRAYING during his crucifixion.
The LORD answered her and we could see that in Psalm 91
He will call to me
And I have answered him;
I will be with him in distress;
I will rescue him;
I will glorify him;
I will satisfy him with long days;
I will show him in my salvation.
(Psalm 91:15-16)
This is the summary of the LORD’s answer
SO, WHAT is the RESPONSE of the Psalmist in Psalm 22?
We will move quickly through this, but we have a couple that we want to explore.
I will recount your name to my family (brothers);
In the middle of the assembly I will praise you!
(Psalm 22:22)
What a beautiful image.
As soon as the answer comes through the horns of the wild ox, the next move is to praise the name of the LORD in the assembly!
Those who fear the LORD, praise Him!
All the children of Jacob, glorify Him!
All the children of Israel, fear him!
(Psalm 22:23)
For he has not despised, and
he has not abhorred,
the affliction of the afflicted;
He has not hidden his face from him,
instead, he heard when he cried out to him.
(Psalm 22:24)
From you, my praise will come
in the mighty assembly;
I will Shalom my vows,
in front of those who fear him.
(Psalm 22:25)
The afflicted will eat with satisfaction;
Seekers of the LORD will praise him!
Let your hearts live forever!
(Psalm 22:26)
Let the ends of the earth
remember and return to the LORD.
Let all the families of the nations
bow in worship before you.
For to the LORD belongs the Kingdom,
and He rules among the nations.
(Psalm 22:27-28)
Let all the enriched of the earth
eat and bow in worship.
Let all who go down to dust
kneel before him, and
the one who has not kept themself alive.
(Psalm 22:29)
INTERESTING REFERENCE TO GOING TO DUST (Gen 3)
Offspring will serve him,
a generation to come
will be told of my Lord.
They will recount his trust and faithfulness
to a people who have not yet been born,
because He has done this.
(Psalm 22:30-31)
A generation to come will be told of what God has done.
THIS IS THE ANSWER of the one who was abandoned, attacked, and AT THE MOMENT of DEATH, is immediately rescued.
I will go and tell others about you.
In the congregations, assemblies, to the nations, peoples, to the afflicted, I WILL TELL THEM OF YOUR NAME!
Okay, back to Luke.
Then they went home and prepared spices and ointments to anoint his body. But by the time they were finished the Sabbath had begun, so they rested as required by the law.
Who is they? The Women who followed.
What time of day is it?
EVENING...
But very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared.
What time of day is it?
MORNING...
It was EVENING and MORNING…Day?
GENESIS...
Coincidence?
Follow this.
He dies on the afternoon of the Sabbath.
Sabbath begins Friday Evening (sun down)
((ALL WE HAVE READ OCCURS DURING THE SABBATH))
Sabbath ends Saturday Evening (sun down)
It is night, no one, especially the women, are going to the tomb.
So they come at dawn, MORNING, on Sunday.
Do you remember when Jesus said, “MAN WAS MADE FOR THE SABBATH?”
The point of the sabbath was to rest and allow creation and God to provide.
But very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.
What has been the issue the whole time in Luke?
Everyone is HEARING and NO ONE is LISTENING.
If they had been listening, they would not be puzzled.
The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what he told you back in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that he would rise again on the third day.”
GREAT LINE! There is a whole message in that one line!
Angels eves-dropping…I guess he did have protection.
Don’t you REMEMBER…(Zachariah)
Didn’t you LISTEN!!!
Then they remembered that he had said this. So they rushed back from the tomb to tell his eleven disciples—and everyone else—what had happened. It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and several other women who told the apostles what had happened. But the story sounded like nonsense to the men, so they didn’t believe it. However, Peter jumped up and ran to the tomb to look. Stooping, he peered in and saw the empty linen wrappings; then he went home again, wondering what had happened.
Do you know why you should study scripture?
Because we forget...
And in keeping with the narrative of Genesis 2 and 3, the women bring help, and the men...
*****But the STORY sounded like nonsense...
They reject it.
They don’t believe.
Peter is do unconvinced, that he has to see for himself.
And after the women recount their experience, with the angels, the words of Jesus...
Peter STILL is wondering what happened.
Evening and Morning
There is a lack of connection between what is in the Psalms and the response of the people.
They have not yet connected what has really happened.
Evening and Morning are hyperlinks to the creation narrative.
The narrative ends with
waw yehi erev waw yehi boker yom ha shishi
The seventh day begins with morning.
There is no evening.
So the cycle is an evening and a morning.
This is an extension of the creation narrative.
Biblical authors will use the term “New Creation.”
That is why the author in Psalm 22 is rejoicing.
The Lord has returned to humans.
A way has been made to restore humans to the presence of God.
The assembly is you and me.
The assembly are the loyal divine beings in heaven.
The work to restore has begun.
How long did day seven last? Thousands of years.
How long has this new creation day lasted we live in? Thousands of years.
Reconcile that into six literal 24 hour days of creation!
Can you see how the biblical authors are not concerned with time.
They are concerned with location.
Here is another little tidbit.
What was human made from?
Dust. More than that, human (adam) came from the ground (adamah).
Where did Jesus rise from?
The ground, the adamah.
In another gospel Mary mistakes Jesus for the gardener.
He is in a garden tomb.

Raised from the ground
In a garden
He sends a woman/women to the men (Gen 2)
This is the beginning of New Creation!
You and I participate in that today!
