Point 1: The Spirit calls . . . but we must be listening (13:1–3)

READ Romans 8:14

1) What does Paul say about the Spirit in this verse? What does Paul say is an evidence you are a son or daughter of the

Lord?

2) What is different between our situation today as Christians and the Christians in Acts 13:1, 2 in Antioch? What advantage do we have today that they did not have then? Does the Spirit still speak in the same way today? What are ways the Spirit speaks to us? How can you build time into your week to ensure you are listening to the Spirit’s leading?

Point 2: The Spirit sends . . . but we must go (13:4–6)

READ Hebrews 3:7–19

3) Where did the Lord send Israel? How did they respond? What was the result of their rebellion?

4) Where does the Lord send us as His church? What are some individual ways we are called to “go”? What are excuses we use to not “go”? How can your group “exhort one another every day” to ensure you are not being hardened to the leading of the Spirit?

Point 3: The Spirit equips . . . but we must trust (13:1, 5, 7)

READ Titus 3:3–8

5) How does this passage help us trust in the action of the Lord in our proclaiming the Word? Why does Paul want Titus to insist on “these things”? What are things that hinder your trust in the Spirit’s action? What feeds your trust?

Point 4: The Spirit exposes . . . but we must be bold (13:6–11)

READ 2 Timothy 2:22–26

6) In what way does Paul instruct Timothy to expose opponents of the gospel? What is the purpose of this correction?

How have you seen correction “go south” in the church? Have you ever seen it work positively? How can we learn to expose false teaching or unhelpful teaching in a Christ-like way?

Point 5: The Spirit saves . . . and we get to participate (13:12)

READ Acts 2:17, 21

7) Why do you think so many in the church do not want to participate in sharing the gospel? What are the promises in this

prophecy from Acts 2? What are some practical ways you can participate with the Lord in saving His people?

Practical Applications

1. Find one new spiritual discipline and apply it to your life for the next month.

2. Spend time fasting and praying, seeking the Lord’s guidance.

Pray the passage

O Lord, you are a God who saves! We praise you for you alone could rescue us from the grip of hell and bring us into your marvelous light.

We ask for your forgiveness when we do not worship and fast and pray as we ought. Forgive us for not seeking your will more than our own.

We thank you that you are a God who sends your Spirit to us to guide and direct us. We ask that you teach us to be more sensitive to your Spirit and that we would not grieve your Spirit but freely follow you.

Give us boldness to proclaim your Word from east to west. Give us boldness to call our false prophets and false religions, but with the heart that you save them by your grace. May you bring salvation to our area Lord. In Jesus name, Amen.
