John 16:33 KJV 1900
33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Peace does not mean an absence of trials or problems
Be of good cheer
Peace in problems
Cheer in tribulation
If you have to be free of problems or hurts or tribulation to have cheer, you are no different from the world
That is worldly to think that my outside circumstances must be comfortable for me to have peace and cheer
What is this world and this life all about.
We have troubles - those troubles do not give us a right to react un-biblically
Ephesians 6:10 KJV 1900
10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
Ephesians 6:11 KJV 1900
11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
Ephesians 6:12 KJV 1900
12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
The NT is interwoven with a theme that in this world we will have troubles
We must be careful to not teach a false Gospel
Meaning if I accept Jesus I will be free from all trials
Psalm 46:1 KJV 1900
1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble.
We are going to have trouble
God is faithful
2 Corinthians 4:7 KJV 1900
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
2 Corinthians 4:8 KJV 1900
8 We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
When you are in your trouble
2 Corinthians 4:9 KJV 1900
9 Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
We have a treasure
We fret in the middle of our trial because it’s about us
How did they get through that hurt
The excellency of the power is of God
not of us
1. Troubled by the enemy below us
He is under us
Ephesians 1:22 KJV 1900
22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,
Ephesians 2:6 KJV 1900
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
Romans 16:20 KJV 1900
20 And the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen.
The enemy is working to make our conflicts
The flesh invites the enemy to war against us
There is always a war waging
The enemy wants our mind
He wants our time
We can win through the name and blood of Jesus Christ
Satan will not leave us alone
He wants your marriage
He wants your family
There is a realm below us
Matthew 16:18–19 KJV 1900
18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Renounce the enemy and resist the enemy - He will flee
Matthew 16:23 KJV 1900
23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men.
Renounce and resist the enemy
In his attacks against your life
your family
your marriage
2. We are Troubled by an enemy Around Us
We are heavenly citizens
We have a natural world citizenship, but our heavenly citizenship is eternally more important
James 4:4 KJV 1900
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Are we allowing people who are not friends of God influence us
Many problems come from being unequally yoked with unbelievers
Proverbs 1:10 KJV 1900
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, Consent thou not.
Sinners will entice you and me
2 Corinthians 6:14 KJV 1900
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
Psalm 1:1 KJV 1900
1 Blessed is the man That walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
The world plans to entice those that are believers
The ungodly want you to listen to their counsel
Sinners have places they frequent
The scornful
Enemies are everywhere - we are on a battlefield
Be alert and sober - the world is after us
Elite sanctified soldiers will change people around them - they will make a difference
John 17:6 KJV 1900
6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
2 Corinthians 6:17 KJV 1900
17 Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
John 17:7 KJV 1900
7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.
John 17:8 KJV 1900
8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
John 17:9–12 KJV 1900
9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. 10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them. 11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are. 12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
John 17:13 KJV 1900
13 And now come I to thee; and these things I speak in the world, that they might have my joy fulfilled in themselves.
Become one with Him
John 17:14 KJV 1900
14 I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
The world didn’t like Jesus
We are not trying to make the world mad
by nature of what we believe and Who we represent, and who we are the world dislikes us.
3. We are troubled by an enemy within us.
Romans 7:15–21 KJV 1900
15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. 16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. 17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. 20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. 21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
Sin is in you
Psalm 51 (KJV 1900)
To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bath-sheba.
1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: According unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
2 Wash me throughly from mine iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin.
3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: And my sin is ever before me.
4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, And done this evil in thy sight: That thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, And be clear when thou judgest.
5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; And in sin did my mother conceive me.
6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: And in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
(God can clean you from your worst moments.)
8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
9 Hide thy face from my sins, And blot out all mine iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; And renew a right spirit within me.
4. We Have Help From a Father Above Us
Psalm 121 KJV 1900
A Song of degrees. 1 I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, From whence cometh my help. 2 My help cometh from the Lord, Which made heaven and earth. 3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: He that keepeth thee will not slumber. 4 Behold, he that keepeth Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is thy keeper: The Lord is thy shade upon thy right hand. 6 The sun shall not smite thee by day, Nor the moon by night. 7 The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: He shall preserve thy soul. 8 The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in From this time forth, and even for evermore.
There is an enemy below
There is an enemy around
There is an enemy within
There is Help from a loving Father above us
Our Father which art in heaven, hollowed be thy name
God knows about the enemy below and He has given us the authority to defeat
God knows about the enemy around us and has given us power to be separate
God knows about the enemy within and has provided a new nature
Nothing surprises God
Everything we go through God can make it all work together for good
