! LIVING IN THE HOPE OF CHRIST’S RETURN
!! Bible Text: 1 Thessalonians 4:9-12
!! Subject: Basics
!! Title: Basics Matter To God
!
INTRODUCTION
!! Biblical Orientation:
!!!
There is something in 1 Thessalonians that is an encouragement to those in the ministry.
Paul wrote Timothy later, and in 2 Timothy 2:24 told him “the servant of the Lord must not strive, but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, in meekness instructing.”
He wrote that to the younger pastor because Paul had learned that God’s people must hear the same lessons over and over, or they are inclined to fail to practice what they once heard and perhaps once practiced
!!! Notice 4:2 & 11b: He already taught the Thessalonians what he is teaching them again.
It appears that no less than nine times in the first four chapters, Paul acknowledged that he is reminding them of things they already heard him teach.
Apparently, some are failing to practice or have not learned yet.
The servant of the Lord must be patient and keep teaching the same truth
!! Sermon Orientation:
!!! Remember, the bottom line is us before God our Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ (3:13).
The great apostle is teaching what is important as we wait for Jesus’ return.
This man of Holy Ghost wisdom and knowledge could instruct us to theological heights and great doctrinal depths.
Nevertheless, would you consider how incredibly practical and basic and relevant his teaching is?
He says in chapter four to do three things:
!!!! 1. Be morally pure
!!!!!! ü Holiness includes sexual purity v 3-5
!!!! 2. Love the brethren
!!!!!! ü Yes, we have learned in this letter about loving the brethren before
!!!! 3. Be quiet
!!! How is that for basics?
