Good Morning Everybody! We are so thankful you are here in worship with us this morning whether you are joining us in person or online we want to welcome you. My name is Terry I Serve here as a the Lead Pastor. We have an amazing team of people here at Freedom Chapel that work so diligently to help this church family live up to our Mission of Bringing Hope to our Community by being a Place to Belong a Church for the Whole Family.

Michelle and I are leaving town tomorrow. We will be gone for two weeks as we celebrate our 20 year anniversary. I want to take this opportunity to tell you how blessed I am to have her by my side....

If you have your Bibles turn with me to Romans Chapter 5.
We are going to pick up at Verse 12 this morning.
We have a lot of ground to cover this morning so we are going to dive right in this morning.
Last week Paul threw out a new Big Christian Word. Reconciliation.
11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.
There are three definitions for reconciliation and I think they are all really good.
Reconciliation: The restoration of friendly relations.
Reconciliation: The action of making one view or belief compatible with another.
Reconciliation: The action of making financial accounts consistent: harmonization
12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
To truly understand the relationship God had with Adam. As you read Genesis and the creation and fall of Adam and Eve you see that God visited them daily. They had a relationship with God that one would consider a friendship. That Friendship was contingent on one Command.
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden,
17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”
The moment Adam and Eve took of the forbidden tree they broke friendship with God, their beliefs no longed aligned with God, and their spiritual bank account went bankrupt.
Adam started this cycle that we still contend with today.
Paul tells us through out this letter that if we are in Sin we are at War with God.
We can see in the world around us that those in sin do not hold the same beliefs as God.
Due to the sin we see in the world around us we see people all around us who are spiritually bankrupt.
I had a debt I could not pay and Christ paid a debt he did not owe.
12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned—
13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given, but sin is not counted where there is no law.
Paul takes an aside here. He is playing to the philosopher here. This idea that how can someone be held accountable for breaking a law they don’t even know existed.

14 Yet death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over those whose sinning was not like the transgression of Adam, who was a type of the one who was to come.
14 Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come.
Adam’s breaking of the command placed the curse of sin and death on all of his descendents.
The way we know sin reigned even in the absence of the law. Death still reigned. People still died.
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
The law does not determine sin....The law opens our eyes to our sin, it shows us the seriousness of our sin, it helps us to understand our need for God’s mercy and forgiveness.
Paul shows us that Adam Started a Pattern.

Adam was a representative of created humanity and Christ is a representative of the new, spiritual humanity.
Through Adam I live according to my flesh and carnal desires.
Through Christ I live according to the Holy Spirits leadings.
15 But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man’s trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.
16 And the free gift is not like the result of that one man’s sin. For the judgment following one trespass brought condemnation, but the free gift following many trespasses brought justification.
17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
In Adam I loss my ability to have friendship with God, my ability to think like God, and my ability to have my spiritual bank account balanced with God.
With Adam I am always running on empty.
In Adam I am a trespasser:
Through Adam We all became Trespassers
But Christ brought Justification
Justification restored friendship
Justification brings right thinking through Christ Righteousness
Jesus brought in the ability for our spiritual bank accounts to be balance
18 Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men.
In Adam we were condemned to death. Spiritual death, mortal death, relational death,
In Christ raised to life.
Jesus Tells us in
10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.
19 For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.
In Adam we can not be made right before God. We won’t choose right, and we will never think right.
In Christ we become obedient because of Jesus’ righteousness.
20 Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,
21 so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The law came in like a huge Magnifying Glass. The Law is like spotlight following you around to show you all the ways you don’t add up.
Your ability to follow the rules only shows how terrible you are at not following the rules.
Paul ends this section this way. The law is there to show you how much you need Jesus. The question is are you going to dismiss your sin or are you going to turn to Jesus and let his grace reign in you.
God loves you right where you are at but he loves you too much to leave you there.
