Super Supreme

Text: Colossians 1:15-20 (NIV)

15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. 16 For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. 17 He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. 18 And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. 19 For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, 20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

2.       All Things Created For Him

C.      By Relation: He Is Autonomous From Creation

2.       Self-Preserving – Creation Sustained In Him

III.   Recognize Christ As Supreme In Salvation: Singular Head Of The Church

A.      He Reigns Over The Church

2.       Giving Her Life

3.       Granted Supreme Honor

B.      He Reconciles The Church

2.       God In His Death: The Avenue Of Reconciliation

IV.    Conclusion: Just as there is no creation apart from Christ, there is no church apart from Christ. That which He made, He died to save. The Author of creation is the Author of Salvation. In Christ, God brings creation back to its maker. In Christ, we find both our source, and our salvation. Apart from Him, we find ourselves cut off, estranged from God. (Col. 21-23) Since you have received your earthly life from him, why not trust Him for life everlasting life. If He is not your hero, you have the wrong one. In sports, it is no big deal. You can be a misguided fan and survive. In real life, if Jesus is not your hero, you forfeit your life. Trust in Him.
