Colossians 1:15–17 (NLT) Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. 17 He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.
As we sit and stand in the magnificence of this place let us remember it is God’s creation.
According to what I just read in the Bible, Jesus, the Son of God:
Who existed before anything was created
Is supreme over all creation
Jesus Is the One through whom all was created
He is the One FOR whom it was created.
Jesus Is the One who currently sustains all creation.
The Bible reminds us that whether we can see it or not, Jesus made it.
He made these magnificent mountains.
He made the river that became this lake.
He made the trees
The blooming rhododendrum
The mountain laurel along the paths you may explore.
The waterfall predates the lake — God made the waterfall.
The fish in the lake and in the river — God made them.
Any other creatures you encounter — avoid the bears! — God made them.
Not only did He make it all — He is the One holding it all together right now — right at this moment.
And all of creation speaks of the greatness and the goodness of God — it tells who He is.
Romans 1:19–20 (NASB95) … that which is known about God is evident within [us]; for God made it evident to [us]. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that [we] are without excuse.
We are without excuse.
From the micro to the macro, God’s creation tells us His attributes:
That He exists - it is completely illogical and irrational to look at creation (I mean, really examine it in ANY detail) and deny the existence of God
True science CONFIRMS the existence of God
As Charles Rolls says:
In creation, the mighty and the mite, the stupendous and the small, the tremendous and the tiny, the lofty and the lowly contribute their witness to His intricate work and infinite wisdom.
God’s creation tells us:
That He is omnipotent - all powerful — only an all-powerful God could have created the universe and everything in it - could sustain it
That God is all wise — when you consider the diversity of geology, the diversity of life, the consistency of natural law — only an all-wise God could have put this all together.
That God is glorious
Psalm 19:1–4 (NLT) The heavens proclaim the glory of God. The skies display his craftsmanship. 2 Day after day they continue to speak; night after night they make him known. 3 They speak without a sound or word; their voice is never heard. 4 Yet their message has gone throughout the earth, and their words to all the world. …
That God is so good
Psalm 8:3–4 (NLT) When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers— the moon and the stars you set in place— 4 what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?
Acts 14:16–17 (NLT) In the past [God] permitted all the nations to go their own ways, 17 but He never left them without evidence of Himself and His goodness. For instance, He sends you rain and good crops and gives you food and joyful hearts.”
There are so many other attributes to which God’s creation gives witness.
Maybe another time.
Right now, let me focus in on the goodness of God.
Can we sing praise to God for His goodness?

Goodness of God

Vogel SP

This Good God, Who creation extols, is the One who sent Jesus Christ to bring reconciliation.
He sent Jesus NOT just because He is good, but because He loves humanity.
You know it: John 3:16–17 (NLT) “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. 17 God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
Sin had separated us from God.
But we don’t have to STAY separated from God.
Jesus came to die for OUR sins and extend forgiveness and reconciliation from the Father.
All we have to do is what says:
Romans 10:9–13 (NASB95) that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. … 13 for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.”
Have you ever done that?
As creation stares you in face and screams: “There is an all-power, loving God who WANTS relationship with YOU!”
Yes, it is mind-boggling.
But let’s not just be stunned by the revelation of creation — let’s respond to it.

Pray with me:

God, I am in awe of all You have made — its intricacy, it’s beauty — Your fingerprints are all over Your creation.
Whether I look at a single-celled organism through a microscope or behold a super nova through a telescope — I see YOU.
When I think about how You take care of all humanity — not just me, ALL humanity — I am overwhelmed by Your goodness and love.
That You sent your Son, Jesus Christ, to die for MY sins, to rise again, defeating death and becoming the first-fruits of what WE will experience.
I don’t have to be afraid of death, because You have defeated it FOR me!
I repent of my sins.
I surrender my life to You, Jesus — take control of my life.
I ask these things in the precious and powerful Name of Jesus.
Amen
