2 Timothy 4:6 through 2 Timothy 4:8 (NIV)
6For I am already being poured out like a drink offering, and the time has come for my departure. 7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
Introduction: (Walter Long)Street Lucas loved his dogs and hunting, and delighted in his family, and especially his grandchildren. But he was also rightfully proud of his service to the military. It is fitting that today is president's day, because Street Lucas knew as a Navy man that the president is his commander in chief. As a Christian, Street Lucas knew God as his commander in chief. He has gone to report to his commander in chief.

8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.
Conclusion: We say goodbye to a fellow soldier and friend, but it is to his reward that he goes, and for this it is proper that we salute him as a faithful soldier gone to report to his commander in chief at the close of the battle. We salute you Mr. Lucas, and we bid you Godspeed. Until we meet again.
Prayer
Committal: For as much as it has pleased Almighty God to take out of this world the soul of Walter Longstreet Lucas, we therefore commit his body to the ground, looking for that blessed hope when the Lord Himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God, and the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so shall we ever be with the Lord, wherefore comfort ye one another with these words.
