Text: Mark 7:14-23

1.    The Condition of Heart Disease

A). Where did it come from?

1.      A Bad Fall

2.      Genetic

B).  What harm does it do?

1.      Pollutes your bloodsream

Human nature is now tainted with sinful nature.

"God's controversy is not with our weakness, but our willfullness; not with our humanity, but with our carnality. (Dr. Eldon Fuhrman)

2.      Erratic behavior

2.    The Diagnosis of Heart Disease

<Read questions from holy club>

A). Internal Symptons

1.      Fearful

I John 4:16-18 - 16We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. 18There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. Perfect love casts out fear.

2.      Feeling of distance

Romans 8:7-8 - because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, 8and those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

B). External Symptoms

1.      Outward sin - Can't help but sin.

Nothing is easier than sinning.

--Martin Luther

Can't help but sin, because you are tryin in your own power.

2.      Lacking love

Matt.22:36-40 -“‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38“This is the great and foremost commandment. 39“The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40“On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.”

3.    The Perscription for Heart Disease

A). Confront denial.

1 John 1:9 - 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.

B). Get the right specialist.

Psalm 51:5-10 -Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,

And in sin my mother conceived me.

6  Behold, You desire truth in the innermost being,

And in the hidden part You will make me know wisdom.

                   7  Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;

Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8  Make me to hear joy and gladness,

Let the bones which You have broken rejoice.

9  Hide Your face from my sins

And blot out all my iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God,

And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

11 Do not cast me away from Your presence

And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation

And sustain me with a willing spirit.

C). Get the right blood.

Hebrews 9:8-14 - 8The Holy Spirit is signifying this, that the way into the holy place has not yet been disclosed while the outer tabernacle is still standing, 9which is a symbol for the present time. Accordingly both gifts and sacrifices are offered which cannot make the worshiper perfect in conscience, 10since they relate only to food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until a time of reformation.

11But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things £to come, He entered through the greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this creation; 12and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption. 13For if the blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkling those who have been defiled sanctify for the cleansing of the flesh, 14how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without blemish to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

***The old testament sacrifice provided a forgiveness from sin, but the new provides a cleansing that will cleanse the inner man.

*** My mother used use the inside of our shirt if we needed claening up and there was no rag handy.  I would look all clean on the outside, but I knew I was dirty on the inside.  I hated that feeling.

Repentance gets harder with delay. Do it now!
