Friends, you never know how your prayers can change the world!
1 Corinthians 2:4-5  And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God. Most people have never heard of "Auntie Cooke", but I guarantee you that you'll get to know her in glory!  She arrived in Chicago in 1868 as a perfect stranger, but she immediately became involved in D.L. Moody's church when he was just thirty-one years old.  She described him years later, as a 'diamond in the rough', and someone who needed the divine unction and power. During a camp meeting in 1871, she felt an intense burden to pray for Moody.  So, along with her friend, Miss Hawxhurst, Auntie Cooke began praying for him that he'd be filled with the anointing power of the Holy Spirit.  While Moody was unsure of this need, nevertheless, he asked the two ladies to meet with him every Friday afternoon and they began to earnestly pray.  Moody's hunger increased for the power of the Spirit and the Friday before the Great Chicago Fire, Ms. Cooke testified, "Mr. Moody's agony was so great that he rolled on the floor and in the midst of many tears and groans cried to God to be baptized with the Holy Ghost and fire." It was shortly thereafter that Moody went to New York to raise funds for the rebuilding of the church that was destroyed in the fire.  While walking down Wall Street in New York, Moody was hit with power! In fact, Moody recalled how he cried, "Hold, Lord, it is enough!" Throughout his life, he reluctantly talked about that experience, but Moody testified how this was the turning point in his ministry. Moody stated, "I went to preaching again, the sermons were not different; I did not present any new truths, and yet hundreds were converted. I would not now be placed back where I was before that blessed experience if you should give me all the world." The lasting legacy of D.L. Moody's ministry was connected to two ladies that you'll never read stories about (except maybe, here) -- but whose own, lasting legacy is counted in glory!   Do you want to have a lasting legacy?  Become an intercessor! FRiends, let's spend time interceding for our pastors, evangelists, and spiritual leaders, to have the fire of God upon them! Power only comes through prayer – and without any power – how are we going to change the world? Your family in the Lord with much agape love, George, Baht Rivka, Elianna & Obadiah (George, Obi and Elianna, Baltimore, Maryland -- Baht Rivka, Israel)
And this is another fine day in the Lord!
The Spirit is upon me to preach the Gospel to the Poor.
The Lord had received the spirit from heaven on the Jordan at His Baptism.
Isaiah 61:1 (NASB95) — 1 The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, Because the Lord has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners;
Matthew 11:5 (NASB95) — 5 the blind receive sight and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.
Matthew 12:18 (NASB95) — 18 “Behold, My Servant whom I have chosen; My Beloved in whom My soul is well-pleased; I will put My Spirit upon Him, And He shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles.
John 3:34 (NASB95) — 34 “For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God; for He gives the Spirit without measure.
The Gospel message is not man’s message to man on what is to be saved.
James 1:17–18 (NASB95) — 17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. 18 In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures.
The good news is heaven sent and it is the spirit that communicates that news. The spirit was upon the Lord to preach the good news. The life saving message that will take those who respond to it out of the darkness and into the light
Romans 10:17 (NASB95) — 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.
Ephesians 2:8–9 (NASB95) — 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
In the final Judgment it is not what the person has accomplished to get him or her heaven or what it was so bad that will put them in Hell. IN the end it all boils down to what you belief (Pisteuo) was. When evaluated for righteousness Sake, will what you have believed prove to be right to the measure by which you have received eternal life?
Jesus Said
John 11:25–26 (NASB95) — 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
Lawson makes the statement
“Jesus had only one Son and he made him a preacher.”
The Gospel is the life given message, the Gospel message is so powerful that makes that which was previously dead, that is the Human spirit, and makes it alive in Christ.
Jesus was in the Business of Salvation, and so must we be.
The poor are the destitute with no other means for salvation.
πτωχός [ptochos /pto·khos/] adj
It is a picture of a begger, who has no means by which to feed himself. He is deprived from all assets. He is homeless.
He is asking, he is begging, with no means to be able to pay back. So he cannot pay for what he has received. He does not even have the means to work for what he has received. He depends upon the mercy of the giver.
This of coarse is the spiritually bankrupt.
The prosperity Gospel which is that God wants us all to be healthy wealthy and successful.
Why is this WRONG?
Because it is dealing with the Physical and not the spiritual. I suppose the argument is that it is both. But Jesus says
Matthew 16:26 (NASB95) — 26 “For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?
The Emphasis on the prosperity Gospel is upon the world. Satan can reward those who are loyal to the false teaching. That reward becomes a distraction. Those that remain in poverty are made to think that because they are that they are not in the faith.
Satan I’m sure would want all who are worldly to be prosperous for it is that wealth that anchors one to this world to ignore the spiritual poverty that will lock them outside of the kingdom of heaven where Righteousness dwells.
The good news message opens the door to the true source of riches which is in Christ who is not of this world.
Luke 4:18 (NASB95) —He has sent Me to proclaim κηρύσσω [kerusso /kay·roos·so/] v release to the captives,
To proclaim; to preach; to herald.
Lawson “Jesus had only one Son and he made him a preacher.”
Genesis 5:28–29 (NASB95) — 28 Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and became the father of a son. 29 Now he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will give us rest from our work and from the toil of our hands arising from the ground which the Lordhas cursed.”
Man early on were looking for a redeemer. It would not be Noah as His Father would have hoped, but none the less Noah was a preacher in Righteousness (2 Peter 2:5)
And then comes another
Matthew 1:20–21 (NASB95) — 20 But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21 “She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”
ἐκσῴζω, σῴζω [sozo /sode·zo/] v to save, keep safe and sound, to rescue from Danger and destruction.
The Gospel is a message that is to be proclaimed to all the world.
It is that Jesus Christ, who died upon the cross who came from above, sent by God the father who died receiving the penalty for our sins, died was buried rose again and now sits at the right hand of the father. He has conquered death. And by believing in him we have eternal life.
We have been born into bondage. We are prisoners of war as there is a war being waged between The Lord and Satan.
Genesis 3:15 (NASB95) — 15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
When one response to the declaration of freedom they are free indeed.
During the time of Slavery when Abraham Lincoln signed the Declaration of Emancipation setting the Slaves free. It there were no news of that signing or that news was ignored the slavery would have continued.
The Good news message has to be received and responded to.
And recovery of sight to the blind,[1]
John Newton’s “Amazing Grace” writes
I was blind, but now I see.”
How quick was it that Adam had forgotten all that he knew of God the moment that he sinned against God?
Instantly.
At that very moment, Adam was dead spiritually. He was not longer body soul and spirit, that spirit that is connected with His creator. He was body and soul and dead in spirit.
It is the spirit that is necessary to understand the things of God.
1 Corinthians 2:14–15 (NASB95) — 14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. 15 But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one.
Adam ran and hid from an omniscient and omnipresent God. He looked to cover his guilt with fig leaves. He elevated his own victim mentality over the Justice of God.
God is infinite. The creature is finite. The finite cannot know the infinite unless the infinite opens the eyes of the heart and reveals himself. All we know of God is due to the fact that the Lord opened our eyes.
The men on the Road to Emmaus, encountered a stranger. And they walked together while the stranger took them through the word to demonstrate that all that had happened to this Jesus whom they had thought was to the be the Messiah.
It was the Lord who at the moment of breaking the bread with these men that he caused them to see his true identity. (luke 24:13-35)
Psalm 146:8 (NASB95) — 8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; The Lord raises up those who are bowed down; The Lordloves the righteous;
Isaiah 29:18 (NASB95) — 18 On that day the deaf will hear words of a book, And out of their gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see.
Isaiah 35:5 (NASB95) — 5 Then the eyes of the blind will be opened And the ears of the deaf will be unstopped.
Matthew 4:16 (NASB95) — 16 “The people who were sitting in darkness saw a great Light, And those who were sitting in the land and shadow of death, Upon them a Light dawned.”
John 9:39–41 (NASB95) — 39 And Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, so that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may become blind.” 40 Those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these things and said to Him, “We are not blind too, are we?” 41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no sin; but since you say, ‘We see,’ your sin remains.
