Crying Over Spilled Blood

Text: Luke 19:41-44 (NIV)

41 As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it 42 and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. 43 The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. 44 They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”

I.        Introduction:

II.      Cry over the Lost People (vv. 41-42)

III.   Cry over the Coming Enemy (v. 43)

IV.    Cry over Missed Opportunity (v. 44)

V.      Conclusion: The cry shall go out on the last day, “Oh, what could have been.” Do we believe what is coming, the danger and death that is in store for all those in our towns and cities? Maybe we believe its coming, but we lack the compassion to care. If so, then we have the same danger in store for us that awaits the most celebrated heathen in town.
