The Blessing of Wisdom, Proverbs 8:8-21

Wisdom is the right use or exercise of knowledge; the exercise of sound judgment either in avoiding evils or attempting good

Wisdom was highly prized in the ancient East; Wisdom is not held in such high regard in our world now

The world thinks more of those who know how to make money

Those who excel in sports or politics

Or those who become famous entertainers.

What a shame

God values wisdom

And He gives it to those who ask and seek for it (James 1:5)

Wisdom is so much more than intellect; instead of focusing on making a living, wisdom helps us to have a life

1. WISDOM’S RESULTS (vv. 8-14)

1. Wisdom is better than riches; silver and gold were measurements of one’s wealth. Wisdom is far better than wealth

2. Wisdom is better than rubies; rubies were a choice jewel; wisdom is far better than rubies

3. Wisdom is better than the remainder; “all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.” Everything of value is inferior to wisdom. Wisdom has greater value

4. Wisdom rejects evil of all kinds

2. WISDOM’S RULE (vv. 15-17)

God give us wise leaders!

Let us diligently seek after and fervently pray for Wisdom.

That search and that prayer will always bear fruit for us!

3. WISDOM’S RICHES (vv. 18-21)

Wisdom produces a lasting kind of wealth that is associated with honor and righteousness.

No one is poor who has found faith in Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians 8:9) For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
