John 1:29 (NIV) \\ 29The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
!
Introduction:
On Monday the Jews celebrate Yom Kippur.
They no longer conduct the sacrifice.
but they celebrate each year as they go into a time of reflection and repentance for sin.
Jesus is our great High priest.
He is both the one who offers the sacrifice and He is the sacrifice.
!
I.      The Lamb In His Identification
!! A.     God With Us
- Immanuel - God with us.
He does not remain aloof from His creation.
!! B.     One Of Us
- He is both Lamb and Shepherd, and we are the sheep of His pasture.
He is fully God, but can we see also that He is fully man.
Not was fully man, but is.
Revelation 7:17(NIV) \\ 17        For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; \\         he will lead them to springs of living water.
\\         And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
-The revealed truth of the Bible is not that Jesus Christ took on Himself our fleshly sins, but that He took on Himself the heredity of sin that no man can even touch.
God made His own Son “to be sin” that He might make the sinner into a saint.
It is revealed throughout the Bible that our Lord took on Himself the sin of the world through /identification with us/, not through /sympathy for us/.
He deliberately took on His own shoulders, and endured in His own body, the complete, cumulative sin of the human race.
“He made Him who knew no sin /to be sin for us/ …” and by so doing He placed salvation for the entire human race solely on the basis of redemption.
Jesus Christ reconciled the human race, putting it back to where God designed it to be.
And now anyone can experience that reconciliation, being brought into oneness with God, on the basis of what our Lord has done on the cross.
\\ A man cannot redeem himself—redemption is the work of God, and is absolutely finished and complete.
And its application to individual people is a matter of their own individual action or response to it.
A distinction must always be made between the revealed truth of redemption and the actual conscious experience of salvation in a person’s life.
!! C.     Known To Us
Jesus is both revelational, and relational.
The idea of revelation itself  suggests communion.
\\ Revelation is made in order to seek communion, or a relationship of unity between the one revealed and the one revealed to.
\\ Jesus Christ became man for one purpose, that He might put away sin and bring that human race back into the oneness of identification, that man might stand before Him as he was created to do, the friend and lover of God Himself.

II.
The Lamb In His Occupation
!! A.     As Sacrifice
The Sacrifice reveals the Mercy of God, again revealing a move to reconcile or to bring in agreement and communion.
Isaiah 53:7 (NIV) \\ 7          He was oppressed and afflicted, \\         yet he did not open his mouth; \\         he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, \\         and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, \\         so he did not open his mouth.
A willing sacrifice.
Willing to die to make it happen.
!! B.      As Sanctifier
John 1:29 (NIV) \\ 29The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV) \\ 21God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
1 John 1:9 (NIV) \\ 9If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Revelation 19:7-8 (NIV) \\ 7          Let us rejoice and be glad \\         and give him glory!
\\         For the wedding of the Lamb has come, \\         and his bride has made herself ready.
\\ 8          Fine linen, bright and clean, \\         was given her to wear.”
(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)
Bride>union>one ---
John 17:11-20 (NIV) \\ 11I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you.
Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name—the name you gave me—so that they may be one as we are one.
12While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me.
None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
\\ 13“I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.
14I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
15My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
16They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.
17Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
18As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.
19For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
\\ 20“My prayer is not for them alone.
I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,
!! C.      As Sovereign
Revelation 17:14 (NIV) \\ 14They will make war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will overcome them because he is Lord of lords and King of kings—and with him will be his called, chosen and faithful followers.”
Acts 2:36 (NIV) \\ 36“Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
!
III.
The Lamb In His Intention
!! A.     Unity
- Between God & man
- Between man & man
*Illust.:*
/Mary//’s Little Lamb/
Mary had a little Lamb Whose blood washed white as snow, The sins of every one who asked; He cleansed them with the flow.
\\ To love the Lord, with all thy heart, With all thy soul and mind, This is the first and greatest start, To following in kind \\ Many followed Him to school one day, To learn the golden rule, The Word of God, would show to all, Two simple little tools.
\\ And then to love thy neighbor, friend, Just as thou love thyself, The Lord said this is all you need, To show you’re like myself.
!! B.     Purity
Inner Purity a must
Revelation 21:27 (NIV) \\ 27Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Revelation 7:14 (NIV) \\ 14I answered, “Sir, you know.”
\\ And he said, “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
!! C.      Security
Revelation 7:16-17 (NIV) \\ 16        Never again will they hunger; \\         never again will they thirst.
\\         The sun will not beat upon them, \\         nor any scorching heat.
\\ 17        For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd; \\         he will lead them to springs of living water.
\\         And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
!
Conclusion:
The day of atonement has already come.
The sacrifice has been made.
The Lamb provides an answer to not only our committed acts of sin, but he is in Himself , the answer to what drives us to sin within.
The lamb, who is fully like the lambs of His fold, is also God.
In Jesus the man and his maker are united to such an extent that in him, man can be one with God.
