Praying with Gods Holy Spirit

Praying Abba Father

Romans 8:26–27 NLT
And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.
Message 2
Praying Abba Father
Me:

When your grandchildren ask for something

a. It’s different when the kids ask
i. A case of Monsters (Don’t judge me)
ii. If it is within my power, I will do it for them
iii. God says we can ask the same way
b. Look at what the bible says
i. Matt 7:9-11 CEV
Matthew 7:9–11 CEV
Would any of you give your hungry child a stone, if the child asked for some bread? Would you give your child a snake if the child asked for a fish? As bad as you are, you still know how to give good gifts to your children. But your heavenly Father is even more ready to give good things to people who ask.
ii. Here is a couple of questions
We:

How we think God answers pray.

a. Breaking down God’s reluctance
i. Do you think God is reluctant?
ii. Does God drag his feet about the things we ask for?
iii. Is God in heaven counting the number of times we ask thinking “If they ask enough then I will grand their request”?
iv. Maybe we think God is in heaven looking to see if we have done everything perfectly.
v. Where did we get that idea that prayer is breaking down God’s reluctance?
1. It’s personal experience – we are taught this
vi. Why do we tend to think we have to bash in the door of God’s unwillingness?
b. Here’s what I think.
i. God is thinking; “If you would just ask, I would give”.
1. Most of my praying is praising not asking
2. What’s your prayer life like
ii. God’s Holy Spirit encourages us to ask.
iii. Let’s see how
God:

The war inside

Sinful self vs. godly self

i. Romans 8:5 NCV
Romans 8:5 NCV
Those who live following their sinful selves think only about things that their sinful selves want. But those who live following the Spirit are thinking about the things the Spirit wants them to do.
ii. There are a lot of ways we can descried our sinful self
iii. Flesh carnal corrupt
iv. NIV says this “have their minds set on what the flesh desires”
v. Underline “mind set”
vi. This is what the sinful self does. Its mind is set on the things that please the “flesh”
1. The extreme case of this is the addict
2. Your only desire is what pleases you. Even at the expense of someone else

The godly self has a different focus

i. Matt 7:12 CEV
Matthew 7:12 CEV
Treat others as you want them to treat you. This is what the Law and the Prophets are all about.
ii. The Golden rule
iii. Their focus has changed
iv. Their “mind set” is different – Renew your mind

The battle you fight

i. Which one will you give into?
ii. The pressure will be great
iii. Sinful self – Indifferent to prayer
iv. Godly self – God Holy Spirit is encouraging you.
You:

Praying in the Spirit

Abba, Father

i. Rom 8:15 NET
Romans 8:15 NET
For you did not receive the spirit of slavery leading again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.”
ii. Abba (father) n. — (Aramaic) father, probably as an informal term that a child would be privileged to use with his own father.
iii. What would a child call his father in our world today.
iv. I would Dad some would use daddy
v. As you pray your spirit with God’s Holy Spirit join together and cry out to the Father.
vi. In our weakness God’s Holy Spirit is encouraging us to cry out to our heavenly Father.
vii. Much like a child cries for their parents
viii. Matt 6:9 esv
Matthew 6:9 ESV
Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
b. Lay aside that sin
i. Walk with the Lord
ii. Do some sin surgery
We:

Papa can I have a Monster?

a. Of course you can

Abba Father can I have…

ii. Matt 7:8 nlt
Matthew 7:8 NLT
For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
