Paul is going to continue with thanksgiving and prayer
for Philemon
and the encouragement that Paul receives from hearing about Philemon

Paul a prayer warrior
in almost all of his books he opens them with telling them he is always praying for them- he means it
He is thanking God for them
I think he is mentioning them by name
V 5 because i hear about
Paul is always getting reports from all of the churches
he is writing them letters to correct doctrine
to correct sin
to encourage them in the faith
to rebuke them for their allowing false teachers in
so he hears about the faith and love coming from individuals
this time it’s Philemon
what he hears is the love he has toward Jesus and To the saints
before I knew really what biblical love is
I told God that I don’t love Him I knew that I should But don’t
and that concerned me
and then God started showing me what love is
my love for Him started also to grow
and my love for others grew
this love is a supernatural love
and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
We know that we have passed over from death to life because we love the brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.
love for Jesus and the brother is a sign that one is a Christian
Paul is thankful for this because he sees the working of God in his life

we need to pray for those we are in conflict with
our faith and love for Jesus results in love for the rest of the body

here is what Paul prays for Philemon and the church at his house
Fellowship κοινωνία (koinōnia). n. fem. fellowship, communion, sharing, participation. A term that conveys a sense of commonality, solidarity, and shared responsibility among households or individuals.

when we give to missionaries we are participating in Koinonea
The fellowship of faith
there are many fellowships in this world
a group of likeminded people , a society, exclusive
of faith is the Church, body of Christ, the Bride of Christ
Baptist think it’s a potluck
but it’s much deeper, it’s our connection as a family
our love for each other
sharing each others burdens

All of the riches of Christ in us that increase our faith

the result of our learning these things is

Jesus is glorified when we use all of what he has given us

Paul is encouraged when he sees the fruit of the gospel
the love that Philemon has for all of the saints
Paul is reminding Philemon of who he is in Christ
because Philemon is going to have to put all of these principals together when he accepts Onesimus as a brother
as we learn as we apply what we have learned
I learned this week that am a prisoner of Jesus
