A. John loved Gaius in the truth, because Gaius stood for the truth!
B. John didn’t heal Gaius, but prayed for him. 1) Because God doesn’t heal everyone! 2) The Apostolic gifts were becoming rare.
C. Our greatest joy should come when people come to the truth.

II. Reject Diotrephes’ Spiritual Hypocrisy vs. 9-11

A. Diotrephes, who wanted to lead, would not stand for truth. It went against his opinon. III John 9
3 John 9 KJV 1900
I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.
3 John 9 NLT
I wrote to the church about this, but Diotrephes, who loves to be the leader, refuses to have anything to do with us.
B. Diotrephes showed his true colors, that he was lost. This would have shocked the church. Legalism is hypocrisy at its finest, because with the lists of dos and don’ts you will always have loopholes for yourself that doesn’t apply to others.
C. Basically, John sent a letter, Diotrephes sent the messengers on their way, disgracefully, and probably destroyed the letter.

III. Rejoice Demetrius’ Spiritual Humility vs. 12-15

A. Demetrius, seems to be the humble quiet type. They will do whatever they can, in order to help somebody.
B. People speak well of them, but they don’t seek to be noticed.
