Life

Ephesians 2:1

I.                    He rose because He is life. (1 John 1:1-2; 5:11,20)

"Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:" (John 11:25, KJV) [1]

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6, KJV) [2]

II.                  He rose to raise us. (1 John 5:12-13)

For when we were yet without strength, in due timea Christ died for the ungodly. 7 For scarcely for a  will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life (Romans 5:6-10) .[3]

III.                He raised us up to raise others.

See the parallel here of acquisition and responsibility.

"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." (John 3:16, KJV) [4]

"Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." (1 John 3:16, KJV) [5]

Why should we do this?

Because He is God!

I.                   The fact that the disciples were dead ‘till Jesus rose was evident in their behavior for the three days Jesus was in the grave.

A.    Peter went back to fishing.

B.     Thomas was distraught, to point of believing nothing.

C.     A few left the fold for a new start (the road to Emmaus).

D.    The women’s preparation of His body for burial.

II.                When Jesus rose they rose, and we rise because He is alive.

A.    Peter was encouraged to lead and feed the flock.

B.     Thomas concluded that Jesus was his Lord and God (not divine utterance but spiritual perception).

C.     The men on the way to Emmaus went back to Jerusalem.

D.    The women believed to the ridicule of the others.

III.             Our new life is the witness of the risen Savior.
