The Treasure and Blessing of Wisdom Proverbs 2:1-11

1. SEARCH FOR WISDOM (vv. 1-5)

The "fear of the Lord" emphasizes awe, and the "knowledge of God" stresses intimacy.

The knowledge and fear of the Lord are precious treasures to be had.

They are not found on the surface of life but rather are “hidden treasures” to be sought with all effort.

Eight activities that are a part of mining the nuggets of divine wisdom and knowledge from the storehouse of God.

1) "receive my words," and

2) "hide my commands"

3) "incline his ear" to wisdom

4) "apply his heart"

We should (5) "call out" and (6) "cry aloud" for insight & understanding.

Wisdom doesn't just happen; it takes hard work to 7) “seek it” & 8) “search it out.”

But the reward is great!

2. SOURCE OF WISDOM (v. 6)

God is the Giver of wisdom 1) His Word 2) Parents 3) Prayer. Note again the command with promise found in James 1:5.

3. STRENGTH OF WISDOM (vv. 7-10)

Solomon here uses imagery that speaks of war, and we are in a war of good versus evil, heaven against the forces of hell.

Those in the army of God are described in a four-fold way.

1) upright--those who do right because they are righteous through faith

2) blameless--those whose lives have integrity and do not call God into reproach

3) just--dispensing justice in life, especially to the underdog

4) faithful--walking a godly life

"Righteousness, justice, & equity" speak of honoring God’s standards of right, dealing with people according to those standards, and living fairly with others.

3. SALVATION OF WISDOM (v. 11)
