Little Is Much When Placed in God’s Hands

TEXT: Mark 6:34-44

Introduction: The Apostles had just returned from preaching and was giving Jesus a report of what had happened. No doubt he sensed their need for rest and called them away to a place they would be alone. The multitudes however followed them. Jesus began to minister to them and it was getting late in the day and he realized their need for food. With 5000 men plus women and children it would take a lot to feed them. There would not be an adequate source for food and he called on the apostles. Pennyworth was about a days wages.

I. Amount

A. Five Barley loaves and two small fishes

1. Not large loaves of bread

2. Possible size of a small biscuit

3. Very specific two “small” fishes

B. Not much to feed this crowd

1. Probably between 10 to 15 thousand people

2. It would take today 10,000.00 to 15,000.00 dollars to have a fish dinner catered.

3. There would be no place that would be able to deliver

C. I may not be much

D. You may not be much

E. Our church may not be much

II. Adequate

A. When in the little boy’s hand it wasn’t adequate

1. When we hide our talent from God he can’t Use it (Parable of the Talents)

B. When in the Apostles hands it wasn’t adequate

1. If we try to put it into the hands of someone else it can’t be used

2. We often shirk our responisibilities and expect someone else to do them

C. Only when placed in the hands of Christ did it become adequate

1. When placed in the Hands of Christ, He can take nothing and make something to be used
