God lives in eternity a science's understanding of light might help us understand

In our last lesson we considered the wonder of boundaries
God is not like us
God does not think like us
God lives in eternity
Judgment is coming
We are considering those things that God has revealed
PEW BIBLE Pg. 763
1 Corinthians 2:6–11 NASB 2020
6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away; 7 but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory; 8 the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood; for if they had understood it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory; 9 but just as it is written: “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, And which have not entered the human heart, All that God has prepared for those who love Him.” 10 For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God. 11 For who among people knows the thoughts of a person except the spirit of the person that is in him? So also the thoughts of God no one knows, except the Spirit of God.
We are considering those deep things of God, the God of Wonder that the Spirit of God has revealed through His word and in creation.
I have developed a love for science — Experience in Biology Class
This morning I want to come back to one of those boundaries: God lives in eternity
There are some who are seeking to do away with this boundary
God cannot see the beginning from the end and the end from the beginning because he resides in our time
God sees past, present, and some future as a sequence of events
They claim we put God in a box - Use the box and explain that they put God in the box
I think first of all Scripture teaches completely different
You would have to dismiss certain scriptures that teach differently
Remember they believe that some scripture is wrong
So in this lesson I’d like to consider what scripture has to say about God and time
Also what the bible teaches about light
How Einstein’s Theory of Special Relativity can teach us about God

What we know about light

Light was created by God
PEW BIBLE Pg. 1
Genesis 1:3–5 NASB 2020
3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light “day,” and the darkness He called “night.” And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
You know according to string theory the photons that brought light were created in the first three minutes after the singularity at the beginning of the universe.
A great deal had to happen in those first three minutes for the first photons of light to appear
Wow, so literally that was the first thing to come out, and here is the Bible showing light was the first thing God created
A lot can happen in three minutes and some scientists have a problem with seven days, go figure!
Light can be divided and has a dwelling place according to scripture
PEW BIBLE Pg. 359
Job 38:19–24 NASB 2020
19 “Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And darkness, where is its place, 20 That you would take it to its territory, And discern the paths to its home? 21 “You know, for you were born then, And the number of your days is great! 22 “Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, And have you seen the storehouses of the hail, 23 Which I have reserved for a time of distress, For a day of war and battle? 24 “Where is the way that the light is divided, And the east wind scattered on the earth?
Just look at how much light there is in this world and in our universe, perhaps the dwelling place of light is with God.
1 John 1:5 NASB 2020
5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
We have learned thanks to prisms that light can be dived - called a spectrum the rainbow is an example of the visible spectrum
Working with lasers in one of my college classes we learned we could measure light, redirect it with mirror, split into multiple directions from single beam, it was a great deal of fun.
Light is truly a wonder created by God

The Theory of Relativity and God

Remember E=MC2?
This is the equation we all remember from school.
My friend Matt a physicist and the math - SEE SLIDE
Iv’e been through the math, so what does the the math of special relativity tells us?
Anything traveling at the speed of light:
Has infinite mass
Sees the universe as existing all at one point
Experiences all time at one moment
Inversely some one in an external observers reference frame sees the fast traveler:
Existing everywhere at once
Infinitely massive
Does that not sound like God and our view of God?
When my physicist friend took me through the math this one passage came to mind:
1 John 1:5 NASB 2020
5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
Who would have thought that a theory of science could actually give us insight into God
Once more Scripture is supported by science

God sees the beginning from the end

PEW BIBLE Pg. 486
Isaiah 46:8–11 NASB 2020
8 “Remember this, and be assured; Recall it to mind, you wrongdoers. 9 “Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, ‘My plan will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure’; 11 Calling a bird of prey from the east, The man of My purpose from a distant country. Truly I have spoken; truly I will bring it to pass. I have planned it, I will certainly do it.
God has a point of view completely different than ours.
We live in a box universe, God opens the box and sees everything - USE THE BOX AGAIN!
Even the math of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity assumes a box universe
By putting God within our time line we remove an eternal being from his throne and put Him in a box!
Now God did come into our time Jesus was born into this world but now is at the right hand of the throne of God.
When He ascended He left our time
This is the only time God has been in our time
Even the first verse of the Bible assumes God existed before time and in fact that God created time
Genesis 1:1 NASB 2020
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
There was a beginning and God existed before that, His dwelling place has always been eternity.
Also think about what Peter said about God and time
2 Peter 3:8 NASB 2020
8 But do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day.
I also think about Isaiah 53 and the fact that it is written in the past tense, from God’s point of view it had already happened
God does not see time as a sequence of events, but sees all time as a single point
Scripture and science teaches us that fact.
Conclusion
So why not keep God in His eternal abode?
Why would we want to relegate God to our time line?
I love that even science can teach us about God, and lead to an understanding of God dwelling in eternity and seeing all time as a single point!
We truly serve a God of Wonder!
