Intro: What does a Pastor do?
Theology is for Living Titus 1:1
Titus 1:1 ESV
1 Paul, a servant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the sake of the faith of God’s elect and their knowledge of the truth, which accords with godliness,
Servant of God
Apostle of Jesus
To serve the faithfulness of God’s People
That they might know the truth -
And that truth would lead directly to them living lives that are Godly.
Knowing Truth/Theo = Living Right v1
Theology: The study & knowing of God that transforms us and how we live.

People with a Purpose vs 1

Life reveals belief
Titus 1:1 ESV

Belief to Behavior,
Doctrine to Duty,
Principle to Practice,
Truth to Transformation,
Faith to Function.
Grace to Getting it Done.
Thinking to Thriving.
Worship to Work.
Or As I so appreciate Alistair Begg’s tagline on every truth for life broadcasts. Where the Learning is for Living.
Your life will either prove or disprove your faith in Christ
Both Leaders and False teachers will be shown for what they are by this standard.

Propelled by a Promise vs 2

Theology brings us in line with reality (What is true) Titus 1:2
Titus 1:2 ESV
2 in hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began
We can trust God, His Word & His Promises
Biblical hope is based on God’s Promise
The promise that is based on him never lying
Unbreakable promise
and that he made those promises before time began
How early in the morning do you have to get up?
Life eternal - That they know me
Why? Because God Never lies
How does truth bring us in line with reality?

Preaching Peace vs 3-4

Theology is not optional - Everyone is a theologian Titus 1:3-4
Titus 1:3–4 ESV
3 and at the proper time manifested in his word through the preaching with which I have been entrusted by the command of God our Savior; 4 To Titus, my true child in a common faith: Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior.
God’s revealig of the gospel/good news was at the proper (perfect) time.
The gospel arrives at just the right time
Through preaching / proclamation
It is revealed through the preaching and proclamation that God
command and a trust (entrusted)
3 Generations -
Paul is commanded and entrusted to do it
Titus is appointed to use it in the church
The rest of the book is about how Theology motivates us to Live Differently and pursue good works
True child Likely that Paul led Titus to himself
in the common faith - Our faith is historical before it is personal

People with a Purpose vs 5

Theology heals when used rightly Titus 1:5
Titus 1:5 NIV
5 The reason I left you in Crete was that you might put in order what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you.
Put in order - Like Setting Right a broken bone
Anyone broken a bone? Dislocated a shoulder?
Good church leadership sets things right.
Unfinished nature of ministry
Appointing of elders in every town
Directed by Paul to do this.
