Introduction

Bible Pass out (Matthew 7:21-23) pg 474 tonight in the Blue ESV Bible
COLUMBUS, Ohio —
A woman being driven around in a rented limousine pulled up at a coat store and announced she'd won the lottery and would pay for everyone's purchases, police said, but she ended up causing a riot when customers realized it was a hoax. Angry customers threw merchandise around and looted, leaving the store looking as though a hurricane had passed through it, police said.
Linda Brown was arrested Tuesday after an hours-long shopping spree that began when she hired a stretch Hummer limousine to drop her off at a Burlington Coat Factory store, police Sgt. Lt. Michael Deakins said. Brown walked to a cash register and loudly announced she had won the lottery and would pay for each person's merchandise up to $500, he said.
"Well, of course, people like to hear that," Deakins said. "Apparently they were in line calling relatives who were not at the store and told them to come."
People flooded the registers as cashiers began ringing up purchase after purchase, but Brown had not yet paid the bill, Deakins said. At least 500 people filled the aisles and another 1,000 were outside trying to get in, he said.
"She was telling people she won $1.5 million," Deakins said. "But it ends up she didn't win anything. She had no money to pay for anything."
About an hour later, Brown had the limousine driver take her to a bank to withdraw money, but she returned empty-handed, police Detective Steven Nace said. By then, store employees had called in two dozen police officers to handle the crowds.
Shopper Candace Jordan said she told Brown she didn't need clothes, she needed help paying her rent.
"And she said, 'How much is it?"' Jordan told WBNS-TV. "And she promptly wrote out a check."
By the time employees realized Brown didn't have any cash to pay, police said, she already had taken off in the limo.
That's when angry customers, realizing they weren't getting free coats, began throwing merchandise on the floor and grabbing clothes without paying for them, Nace said.
"Everybody was like, 'I still want my free stuff,' and that started the riot," he said. "It looks like (Hurricane) Katrina went through the store."
Police said they have no way of tracking down the customers who stole items and fled, but they're reviewing surveillance video.
When the limousine driver realized he wasn't going to be paid the $900 Brown owed him for the day's rental, he turned her in to police, Deakins said.
Brown, 44, was arrested on three outstanding warrants for aggravated menacing, misuse of a 911 system and causing false alarms. She was jailed late Wednesday, but no charges had been filed against her related to the coat store chaos pending a mental health evaluation.
Police said they didn't know if Brown had a lawyer. No telephone number was listed under her name, and no one answered repeated phone calls at the Franklin County Jail.
A spokeswoman for Burlington Coat Factory, which is based in Burlington, N.J., and has more than 300 stores across the country, said late Wednesday she couldn't comment on the incident.

Central Truth: Genuine Salvation is not found our our words and deeds but in a personal relationship with Jesus!
Matthew 7:21–23 ESV
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

1. Saying the right things, doesn’t mean Jesus knows you.

Matthew 7:21 ESV
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
Jesus has spent a great deal in the sermon on the mount series pointing out the need for us to have genuine lives that show our faith to others.
What does he mean that there are some who won’t enter into heaven that says Lord, Lord.
He is talking about people who play the part in church.
Do you sing songs designed for praising Jesus, but don’t mean it in your heart?
You might pray to him when things are going bad, but you never talk to him otherwise.
Do you recall a time where you knew you didn’t want to go to Hell so you prayed whatever the Pastor said but haven’t ever spent time with Jesus since then?
Let’s be real, you all are in this room. But how many of us truly follow up our verbal with genuine actions that prove we have a relationship with Jesus?
Important to keep in mind:
Romans 10:9 ESV
9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
The key in confession of Jesus as Lord in our life, is belief in our hearts in the work of Jesus Christ.
Confession without genuine trust in the work of Jesus is useless, which is what Jesus is saying here.
As a result of a genuine confession and belief in Jesus, the way we act changes and shifts.
Our actions match our words. Part of the will of the Lord is for our understanding of our sin is acknowledging and confessing that sin is against God’s will and that if we trust in the work of Jesus it’s removed from our account.
When we live in the freedom afforded to us through Jesus we begin to live lives in and submitted to the will of the Lord!
Which reminds me of a story about a boy would loved sweets:
Once there was a little boy became obsessed with eating sweets. His mother got worried because of his excessive sweet eating habit and tried many ways to stop him from eating.
However, nothing seemed to work.
Nearby in a village lived a wise man who was respected by everyone. So, she decided to take him to that wise man, in hope that her son may listen to him.
Mother went to wise man with her son. There she met him and said, “My son, eats sweets all the time. Will you please tell him that it’s bad for his health?”
After listening to her, wise man thought for a while and refused to give any advice to that boy at that time. He asked the mother to return to him after a month.
She wondered why he asked them to return after a month, why not tell the boy to stop eating sugar at that time yet she left.
Later, she returned to wise man and this time the wise man took boy for a walk and after a while returned. He looked at the boy and said, “Boy, you should stop eating sugar because it’s not good for your health.”
Boy nodded and promised that he would no eat sugar anymore. After this, the mother left with her son.
A few days later she returned to the wise man and said, “Thank you for your help. My boy has kept his promise made to you and hasn’t eaten sugar since then.”
She was curious about why the wise man needed a month to tell her son that. So she asked him, “When I first came to you, why didn’t you tell my son to stop eating sugar right then? Why did you ask me to return after a month?”
The wise man smiled and replied, “At that time, I to regularly ate sugar and I didn’t have the right to tell your kid to stop eating sugar. But now I don’t eat sugar anymore. That’s why I was able to tell your kid to stop eating sugar.
Thus, we must be people who like the wise man, tell others about the good news of Jesus because we have experienced saving faith in Jesus.
However, just like saying the right things, doesn’t mean Jesus knows you.

2. Doing good things in life, doesn’t mean Jesus knows you.

Matthew 7:21–22 ESV
21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’
It is important to remember that Jesus has established that doing the will of the Father is our first priority.
On the surface, it would seem all three examples given would be in the category of “doing God’s will.”
Prophesy in your name
Preaching the word of God can be in this category.
It is important to remember that we must test all we hear against the Word of God. There are many pastors who are not truly pastors of God. They are tools of Satan and they are unaware of this truth.
It is scary to know that just because we speak about Jesus and what the bible says isn’t proof of salvation.
Cast out demons in your name
Yet another example of a “good work” that these people were doing yet, they were not aware they are not doing the “Lord’s Will.”
Do might works in your name
These three statements all have significance religious actions attached to them.
Yet, none of them are proofs that they belong to Jesus.
Why then did Jesus say just prior to this passage, fruit, actions matter then?
Because fruit comes out of a personal relationship with Jesus.
These individuals only thought they were in relationship with Jesus.
They likely pass the visual test to us but Jesus doesn’t see the outside only, he sees the very depths of our own hearts.
What is really deep down in your heart?
These individuals had a religion absent of relationship with Jesus and it will never save anyone.
We have seen that saying the right things and doing good things doesn’t lead to Jesus knowing you?

3. Having a personal relationship with Jesus, does mean he knows you.

Matthew 7:23 ESV
23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
This is the good news. Jesus doesn’t want a bunch of religious folks. He wants authentic relationships with us.
The good works and saying the right things only are good in Jesus eyes, when He is the one doing them through us.
In order for us to have genuine salvation, we must not just know about Jesus, attend worship services, talk about him, we must walk daily WITH him.
If Jesus “doesn’t know you” no matter how much bible you know, how often you go to church, or how loud you sing, or how many people you share the gospel with, it amounts to nothing. Only once you have surrendered fully to Jesus Christ and give him your entire heart will you truly experience saving faith.
Do you spend time with Jesus daily? No healthy relationship goes days between conversations. If I did that with Katherine do you think she would want to stay with me? Do you think she would feel loved and appreciated?
Honestly, I wouldn’t know her and she wouldn’t know me.
The same is true if we don’t spend time in God’s word (how he talks to us) and talking to him in prayer! Out of that our relationship grows with the Lord.
We spend time worshipping with others because we want to celebrate our salvation and grow in our faith and walk with Jesus
We sing praises because we are overflowing with great thankfulness.
We serve others because Jesus served us first.
Everything flows through that relationship with Jesus.
Have you came to that point in your life where you surrendered everything in your heart to Jesus?
Child of God, but haven’t spent time with Jesus like you should commit yourself to Jesus.
Never surrendered: trust in Jesus alone for salvation.
Does he truly know you?
