Don’t Worry, Be Happy

It is a great song, very catchy, no I am not singing
The issue comes when trying to put into practice
Worry is defined as:
give way to anxiety or unease; allow one's mind to dwell on difficulty or troubles.
We talked about anxiety last week - that it is an inward state based on fear
Worry is the outward expression of unchecked anxiety
I looked up and came up with a list of 5 things most people worry about (in no special order):
Worry over work - from getting a job to working somewhere we hate
Worry about money - debt and financial strain
Worry over health - big one today as we worry about Covid
Worry about what others think - parents, spouses, kids, neighbors - we find value in their opinions
Worry about the past - If only syndrome
At its core - worry is merely negative meditation
Most Christians are being crucified on a cross between two thieves: Yesterday's regret and tomorrow's worries. - Warren Wiersbe
Again this is not how we are to live
When we get so focused on worries - we are saying that God is not big enough.
Last week i told you over 100 times God tells not to fear
So the question remains how we live this out
Jesus gives us a great reminder and some practical steps on how we approach and deal with worry
Turn in your bible to Matthew 6
Matthew 6:25–34 CSB
“Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing? Consider the birds of the sky: They don’t sow or reap or gather into barns, yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren’t you worth more than they? Can any of you add one moment to his life span by worrying? And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these. If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t he do much more for you—you of little faith? So don’t worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you. Therefore don’t worry about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Let’s pray
When worry begins to build there are three things we can do immediately:
Look Around
Matthew 6:25 CSB
“Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing?
Listen to me - we are the crown jewel of creation
When God created - each day He said it was good
On the last day He made us - and it went to very good
Look around - The sun has risen, the trees are growing, the birds are flying, the raccoons are digging in your trash
God sustains all of them - so as the most prized does it not make since He would do the same for us and more
Does worry help anything ?
Matthew 6:27 CSB
Can any of you add one moment to his life span by worrying?
Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.
- Corrie Ten Boom
When worry starts to creep in just take a look around

2. Look Back
Matthew 6:28–29 CSB
And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these.
As a disciple - I can pretty much guarantee that there has been moments when God showed up in your situations
What we do is try to manipulate the situations thinking sure God showed up before, but He may not this time
I looked back over my life and especially this past year and all I see is faithfulness
Give us this day our daily bread - I have not missed any days without bread
3. Look Up
Matthew 6:33 CSB
But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be provided for you.

Fear Not!

At the beginning I gave you the top 5 worries:
Worry over work -
Psalm 32:8 CSB
I will instruct you and show you the way to go; with my eye on you, I will give counsel.
Worry about money -
Hebrews 13:5 CSB
Keep your life free from the love of money. Be satisfied with what you have, for he himself has said, I will never leave you or abandon you.
Worry over health -
John 11:25 CSB
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me, even if he dies, will live.
Worry about what others think -
Colossians 3:17 CSB
And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Worry about the past -
1 John 1:9 CSB
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
As a disciple the question is why worry
You find no difficulty in trusting the Lord with the management of the universe and all the outward creation, and can your case be any more complex or difficult than these, that you need to be anxious or troubled about His management of it? - Hannah Whitall Smith
Who better to trust again or to start trusting today/
