Call To Worship
Psalm 47:1–9 NKJV
1 Oh, clap your hands, all you peoples! Shout to God with the voice of triumph! 2 For the Lord Most High is awesome; He is a great King over all the earth. 3 He will subdue the peoples under us, And the nations under our feet. 4 He will choose our inheritance for us, The excellence of Jacob whom He loves. Selah 5 God has gone up with a shout, The Lord with the sound of a trumpet. 6 Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises! 7 For God is the King of all the earth; Sing praises with understanding. 8 God reigns over the nations; God sits on His holy throne. 9 The princes of the people have gathered together, The people of the God of Abraham. For the shields of the earth belong to God; He is greatly exalted.
Giving
Genesis 14:19–20 NKJV
19 And he blessed him and said: “Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; 20 And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” And he gave him a tithe of all.

Private, powerful, prayer.

Matthew 6:5–15 NKJV
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. 14 “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

This week Text:

Matthew 6:5–7 NKJV
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.

What it says

Matthew 6:5 NKJV
5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.
The Hypocrites refers to the pharisee’s who do all their spiritual acts in public. 6:2–4 Hypocrites originally referred to Greek actors who wore different masks to play various roles. Jesus criticizes the religious leaders, most notably the Pharisees, for a particular form of hypocrisy: doing right things for the wrong reasons. Crossway Bibles, The ESV Study Bible (Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles, 2008), 1831.
They love to pray in the synagogues ( Churches).
They Love to pray on the street corners.
there is nothing wrong with people praying in public.
1 Timothy 2:8 NKJV
8 I desire therefore that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting;
Matthew 6:6 NKJV
6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
here we see a contrast. Don’t be prideful in your prayer. let you and God be you and God. remember who it is that you are talking to. you should be talking to God had. remember why you are Prayer is about life.
The Lord Jesus tells us outright what the motive is, not that we have the worship of God, it is being seen as holy. true holiness points to the Lord not to the person in whom the holiness resides.
have a place in which you pray… in the same way that you have places of privacy for your marriage and family, you should have private place for personal prayer and worship.
Matthew 6:7 NKJV
7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.
this has to do with repetitive prayers as if there are “Magic Words” to ‘get God to do things’.
we cannot force God’s hand.
our desire should be relationship with God.

What does it Mean?

prayer is not a sport. it is part of a vibrant relationship with The Lord.
It is not a thing to be ashamed of, its not even a thing shy away from. however it is not a thing to be known as strong in.
you need a place pf regular, private powerful prayer.
you don't need special phrases.

What do I do with it?

pray.
pray passionately.
pray Intimately.
pray often
pray privately.
