Go Tell the Good News, Matthew 28:1-8.

I.

A. An Earthquake on Easter Morning (vv. 1-2)

1. The women arrive at the tomb with spices

2. They arrive just in time for an earthquake

B. The Stone is Rolled Away by the Angel of the Lord

1. The angel sits on the stone

2. Demonstrates victory over death and the grave

C. Urgent News for the Disciples

1. The angel’s command, “Go quickly and tell”

2. What is the urgent news?

II.

A. The Grave Is Empty (v. 6)

1. “He is not here”

a. The women had come in unbelief

b. They expected to find a body

c. They found an empty tomb

2. Consider their confusion

a. The appearance of the angel (v. 3)

b. The shaking soldiers (v. 4)

c. Their fears (v. 5)

3. The earthshaking events of three days prior

a. The trials, the scourging, the mocking, the crucifixion

b. The darkness over the earth for three hours

c. The cry, the rent veil, the earthquake,

d. The body prepared, and placed in the tomb

4. Now the empty tomb: what next?

B. Christ Is Risen (v. 6)

1. “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said,”

a. Jesus, Is Lord

b. The resurrection proved the deity of Christ

1. The sign: “Destroy this temple” (John 2:18-21)

2. The sign of the prophet, Jonah (Matthew 12:38-40)

c. The resurrection fulfilled His promise (John 10:17-18)

2. “He is not here: for he is risen,”

a. The importance of this statement (1 Corinthians 15:1-4)

b. Because He is risen, we have hope (1 Corinthians 15:20-22)

c. Because He is risen, we have salvation

d. Because He is risen, all He said was true

e. Because He is risen, salvation is sure

3. “Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”

a. The Gospel message has an abundance of proofs (Luke 24:3)

b. The angel offered great proof the empty tomb. (John 20:5-7)

c. The angel told the women to "COME.”

1. This was an invitation often given in the Scriptures.

2. God gives great invitations to come (Isaiah 55:1-3) (Revelation 22:17)

3. Jesus made that same great invitation in Matthew 11:28-30

C. Go Tell the Good News (v. 7)

1. “And go quickly, and tell”

a. GO! The women were told to go.

1. We are to go to a lost and dying world. (Acts 1:8)

b. TELL!

1. It is our job to tell others what great things the Lord has done for us.

Psalm 107:2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy;

Matthew 28:18-20 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:
