Last fall, I read Dane Ortlund’s book, Gentle and Lowly. In that book (p. 95), he shared in the August of 1740 Jonathan Edwards preached a sermon exclusively to the children of the church (ages 1-14). The main point of the message, “Children ought to love the Lord Jesus Christ above all things in the world” (The Works of Jonathan Edwards, ed. Stout and Hatch, vol. 22, 171).
And the child grew and became strong in spirit, and he was in the wilderness until the day of his public appearance to Israel.
And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.
And Jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with God and man.
