When a bride was recieved for the Son of Abraham from Haran, there was a Journey that was taken that went on for a period of days maybe weeks before the bride would ever lay eyes on bridegroom. Rebekah left the place of her birth and raising accompanied by the servant of the Son’s Father. It is not written in scripture if Rebekah ever saw her left behind family again for she has left and will be united with her husband and so she will be forever with Him.
On that lengthy Journey there would be long conversations between Rebekah and the servant . Being a close and trusted servant of his master he would tell the bride all about her husband. through the servant she fell in love .
though she had not met him she loved him.
the rapture is the time when the bride is united with her bridegroom to be forever with Him. it is only a part of the greatest romance stories ever written.
The title of this message is The bride for the promised Son.
Hymn: I Got a mansion
introduction and opening Prayer
What is the Rapture?
It is Resurrection of the Universal church, all who are members of the royal Family of God through the new birth in Christ. These are those who are believing in Jesus Christ for eternal life That Jesus who is God eternally, born as Man, died on the cross and took my sins upon his own body, Rose again on the third day, appeared in His resurrection to many before ascending into heaven and now is seated at the right hand of the Father. Those who wait for his return. this is the body of Christ.
It is the truth that has set these people free.
How?
1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 (NASB95) — 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:51–54 (NASB95) — 51 Behold, I tell you a mystery; we will not all sleep, but we will all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet; for the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory.
The Lord does not come to earth, but we depart this earth and we meet the Lord in the air being the first thing that we do with our new transformed bodies.
When
Now it seems to be the most important question on most peoples mind. And I know what I have been taught with regard to a dispensational view point. And I do not refute some good and learned scholars on this point but unless and until I sit down and explore the time in regards to pre, mid, post, I not yet fully convinced when the timing is going to be. What am I saying? I’m holding out to the possibility that all of our theological understanding and presupposition might be wrong. and I can lay out the details of each camp and let you decide, but that is not my aim at this time. Perhaps in the future.
Who
Believers all over the world. the universal church. There is a universal language of death. we all mourn no matter the language when we loose a loved one. Life in Christ is also universal. There will be representatives from every nation and every tongue who will be called.
Matthew 24:14 (NASB95) — 14 “This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.
Returning back to the what is the Rapture and the resurrection of the church, It is in regard to the restoration of what God had purposed from the beginning.
Genesis 1:27–28 (NASB95) — 27 God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
When God made man to be the dominion ruler and on that day God made note that it was not good for man to be alone. Genesis 2:18
God made man a

Man and Esha were destined to be coheirs of the earthly Kingdom in cooperation with one another under God’s plan.
With the fall, Satan fills the void that man left open with regard to authority. There is also a riff between the woman as she will seek to usurp the authority of the Husband, and the husband who seeks to dominate over his wife. Genesis 3:16 Just as the flesh seeks to dominate over the spirit.
What God destined from the beginning God will bring back to its former glory. and though the world seems like it is going to hell in a hand basket so to speak, What we are seeing is God at work and the battle that is escalating to prevent God from finishing his work.
The Last Adam is on scene. He sits at the right hand of the Father. From the time of Pentecost with the coming of the Holy Spirit Acts 2 is the forming of the church or the Bride of Christ.
Remember: it is not Good that Man should be alone, and that includes the Last Adam the Son of Man.
the age of Israel comes to the halt in the timeline of Daniels completed prophecy Daniel 9:24-27 where there is 490 years clock.
There is yet 1 final week of 7 years to be completed. For Israel does have a King but is now in waiting for His bride to complete the royal arrangement and rule of Genesis 1:27
Genesis 1:27 NASB95
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
the church is that bride.
the Marriage motif that is seen with the cultural wedding practice of Israel lays out the event of the Exit resurrecting beautifully from the arranged marriage by the father of the bridegroom who waits a period of time and then recieves the bride to himself fulfilling the Law when it says
Genesis 2:24–25 (NASB95) — 24 For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. 25 And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.
Ah, what was will be again.
so lets follow the custom. There will be things that I have overlooked, I know, and things that I will be disappointed later in not covering, but this will give you a beautiful picture non the less of what is consummated when Christ receives his bride, the church.
Arranged marriage
The bride is not chosen by the bridegroom but by the Father.
Our culture is reversed when it comes to marriage. the western culture as it stands today is Love first then marriage. In the eastern culture where the Patriarch is grooming his family and linage he takes strides to ensure that just the right wife is chosen for his Son. the Patriarch does not throw it to the hands of destiny or young hormones.
the practice was Marriage first and fall in Love later.
Isaac and Rebekah was an arrange marriage.
They met, Married and fell in Love. That Love was displayed when it was Abimeleck who witnessed Isaac caressing His wife. Genesis 26:8
the choosing of the bride was left alone up to Jacob, Isaac’s son as well as to Esau his brother. Jacob chose for himself Rachel that was a conniving manipulative character that was the cause of much frustration for Jacob.
Thou Leah was not Jacob’s choice for a bride it was God’s choice for it was through Leah that the Messianic line would go through Judah her son through Jacob.
Note: I like to believe that Jacob would come to Love Leah after the death of Rachel and as Jacob himself would come closer to the Lord. there are a couple reasons I believe this but we will not expound on them right now.
It is the Father who chooses a bride for his Son
John 10:25–29 (NASB95) — 25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe; the works that I do in My Father’s name, these testify of Me. 26 “But you do not believe because you are not of My sheep. 27 “My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me; 28 and I give eternal life to them, and they will never perish; and no one will snatch them out of My hand. 29 “My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand.
John 6:37–40 (NASB95) — 37 “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out. 38 “For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 “This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day. 40 “For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who beholds the Son and believes in Him will have eternal life, and I Myself will raise him up on the last day.”
John 17:1–2 (NASB95) — 1 Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, 2 even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life.
In seeking a bride and one is determined by the Father of the Son, He will approach the Father of the girl.
“Say, I think your Sarah would be a fine match for my Son John. We must meet to discuss some terms. What do you think?”
Sarah’s dad could say yeah or neh. You see, while the father of the Son is seeking to cultivate his own family line, the father of the bride is looking for compensation. He is losing a worker, and giving away a daughter is more of a business transaction than it is an sentimental one. So if and when they meet they barter for a brideprice. How much will the son’s family pay for a bride for the Son.
It could be in monetary terms. Cattle livestock land. Material wealth.
For the bride for His son, God the Father gives the life of His son
1 Peter 1:18–19 (NASB95) — 18 knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
1 Corinthians 6:19–20 (NASB95) — 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.
This can be the cultural condition of a bride who has been bartered off to a man, maybe she had not even met.
It was elder and trusted servant in Abraham’s house who goes and seeks out a bride for His son taking with him some of the wealth of His master to barter for a chosen bride. Genesis 24:
Genesis 24 (NASB95)
Now we could, and I am tempted to expound on the Marriage for Isaac narrative in regard to the wedding motif, but I will let you do that for your own homework.
and by the way, just as it was that Abraham’s servant leaves the land in search for a bride so is the Holy spirit who is bearing gifts in search of a bride.
Note that the Love passage of 1 Corinthians 13 follows the spiritual gifts passage which is tied to both.
So sometime look at 1 Corinthians 13 and determine if the subject is love or spiritual gifts.
So it is that the bride price would be paid by the blood of Christ.
A bride price can be paid for also by Labor if one did not have the means.
Jacob comes into the Land of Paddam Aram where he falls in Love with Rachel. He wants Rachel as a bride and offers to Labor for her for seven years in order to pay the bride price which is acceptable for Her father but he had some other plans in the work as well to really canalize on this venture.
Post fall world the conditions of work that was present prior to the fall changed become laborious.
Genesis 3:17–19 (NASB95) — 17 Then to Adam He said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat from it’; Cursed is the ground because of you; In toil you will eat of it All the days of your life. 18 “Both thorns and thistles it shall grow for you; And you will eat the plants of the field; 19 By the sweat of your face You will eat bread, Till you return to the ground, Because from it you were taken; For you are dust, And to dust you shall return.”
The ground is cursed. It will not yield so freely as before
in Cultivating the ground there will be dealing with the thorns and thistles.
in the heat of the day.
Did Jesus pay the bride price in Labor?
absolutely
was it not the sweat that poured off of His head like blood droplets when Jesus was praying in the Garden?
was it not the thorns that was jammed down upon His head?
Did he not give himself that he might recieve his bride.
Jacob made a deal with Laban for the hand of Rachel to work for seven years.
Genesis 29:20 (NASB95) — 20 So Jacob served seven years for Rachel and they seemed to him but a few days because of his love for her.
Jacob’s work, though Laborious as Jacob would describe later was Joyous as he was motivated by the Love of the bride.
and as for our bridegroom
Hebrews 12:2 (NASB95) — 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
when the brideprice was settled, the contract was sealed. The two, even though they may have not met were considered contractually married. Again let emphasized the point with the illustration from, the narrative seeking a bride for Isaac.
Genesis 24:50–61 (NASB95) — 50 Then Laban and Bethuel replied, “The matter comes from the Lord; so we cannot speak to you bad or good. 51 “Here is Rebekah before you, take her and go, and let her be the wife of your master’s son, as the Lord has spoken.” 52 When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed himself to the ground before the Lord. 53 The servant brought out articles of silver and articles of gold, and garments, and gave them to Rebekah; he also gave precious things to her brother and to her mother. 54 Then he and the men who were with him ate and drank and spent the night. When they arose in the morning, he said, “Send me away to my master.” 55 But her brother and her mother said, “Let the girl stay with us a few days, say ten; afterward she may go.” 56 He said to them, “Do not delay me, since the Lord has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master.” 57 And they said, “We will call the girl and consult her wishes.” 58 Then they called Rebekah and said to her, “Will you go with this man?” And she said, “I will go.” 59 Thus they sent away their sister Rebekah and her nurse with Abraham’s servant and his men. 60 They blessed Rebekah and said to her, “May you, our sister, Become thousands of ten thousands, And may your descendants possess The gate of those who hate them.” 61 Then Rebekah arose with her maids, and they mounted the camels and followed the man. So the servant took Rebekah and departed.
Remember; Rebekah had not even laid eyes on Isaac her future husband.
J Vernon Megee has a very nice narrative as he gives us a view of the travel back from Haran on the Journey taking the Rebekah back to the son of Abraham. and along the Journey the Servant who had been with the family for years would tell Rebekah all about the family and all about Isaac. About the miraculous birth, about the Sacrifice on the hill and on and on. every evening as they would finish the travel for the day Rebekah would make the servant tell the story again and again.
By time she reached the place where she first laid eyes upon her husband she was already in love with HIm though the faithful work of the Servant.
we are on that journey folks. we are on our way to meet our bridegroom being accompanied by the one who is telling us all about our future bridegroom.
1 Peter 1:8 (NASB95) — 8 and though you have not seen Him, you love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,
With the bride price settled there will comes a waiting period which would last for approximately a year. the bride would remain in her Father’s house though she was considered married. The son would remain in His Father’s house where he would be building onto the house where he would bring his bride to live.
John 14:2–4 (NASB95) — 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also. 4 “And you know the way where I am going.”
The waiting for the year is to test the loyalty of the bride. Does she have the integrity to wait the year.
the contract is binding and can only be annulled by a divorce.
the Husband is exempt from military duty which is an interesting point.
Deuteronomy 20:7 (NASB95) — 7 ‘And who is the man that is engaged to a woman and has not married her? Let him depart and return to his house, otherwise he might die in the battle and another man would marry her.’
I am asked from time to time in this way
“When is the Lord going to get fed up with this world situation and step in.”
Right now is the engagement period for the bridegroom. He is at his Father’s house building on. No military duty for him.
it will not be until after the Rapture of the church (timing of when the Lord return) that he will return to wreak judgment.
Revelation 19:11–16 (NASB95) — 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war. 12 His eyes are a flame of fire, and on His head are many diadems; and He has a name written on Him which no one knows except Himself. 13 He is clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. 14 And the armies which are in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, were following Him on white horses. 15 From His mouth comes a sharp sword, so that with it He may strike down the nations, and He will rule them with a rod of iron; and He treads the wine press of the fierce wrath of God, the Almighty. 16 And on His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
