Here Comes the Judge

In 1968 Pigmeat Markham coined a phrase coupled with song similar to the lyrical patterns of rap music, “here comes the judge”. It was then later popularized by Sammy Davis Jr. in a segment on the comedy sketch show Rowan and Martin’s laugh-In. This particular sketch would show Sammy, in judicial regalia headed his way to the Judge seat saying, “here comes the judge here comes the judge

I wan’t to challenge us today with a question, is that what people say about you when upon arrival, “here comes the judge”? Because they know that you are judgmental, condescending, conceited, self-righteous, self-absorbed, perfect in all our ways, sinless, they see you and have the same demeanor “here comes the judge.”

The culture we live in has a distorted view of judgement, both in relation to scripture and to discernment. Consider this question. In regards to scripture we misquote and misappropriate these scriptures and usual land somewhere between, “Only God can judge me” and “Don’t Judge me”. While it is true that only God can judge us, that should be a sobering reality. Because God is a righteous and just judge and we will face judgment. Also, it is true that we are not in positions to administer judgment like God does. And so, when people go to this scripture they stop after the first three words, “Do not judge...” This has nothing to do with adherence to biblical revelation and has everything to do with the lack of effort on their part to see correction (more on this later). There is a right way to Judge, because else where in scripture we are told to make judgments. And there is a wrong way to judge.

So, before you Judge...

1. Mindful of your Measurement

The warning isn’t has less to do with what you do and more to do with what will happen to you.

To judge in Jesus’ mention here is to create your own standard of what is acceptable and measure everyone against it, hypocritically critiquing others. The Pharisees where experts at this.

There is a reason why we are instructed not to judge, or better yet, why judging is dangerous; Judgment is reciprocated in the Kingdom. If you judge, you will be judged.

It is hard enough for people to do right by God, they are not called to do right by you.

The question you should ask yourself before you pass judgment is this, “am I just as guilty, and am I ready for the same judgment I’m about to give”

So be careful not to assess other disciples salvation or process.

People who judge often suffer memory laps.

2. Apply personal Accountability

We all have our issues and problems. Things we need to work on. Right? But, for some reason when we notices other peoples issues, ours doest seem to matter as much anymore.

I mean you could have a shopping spirit on you and know you spend too much money on frivolous things, but let your neighbor buy a pair of Yeese’s. All of a sudden they’re wasting good money.

You could have an food stronghold, cause you love to eat. But as soon as you find out they have High Blood pressure, know all of a sudden they need to cut back.

You could be having all kinds of trouble in your marriage, but let you find out someone else is going thorough a divorce or breakup and now all of a sudden they can’t keep a…

3. Consider who you’re Correcting

I went to the back of the book, all the way to Revelation all the way to chapter 20. And John said, Revelation 20:11-12 “Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.” Here comes the Judge...

Then I kept reading in Chapter 21: Revelation 21:5-6 “And He who sits on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” And He said, “Write, for these words are faithful and true.” Then He said to me, “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.” Here comes the Judge...

Then I kept reading in chapter 22 and Jesus said, Revelation 22:12 ““Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done.” Here comes the Judge...
