Why should I become a Christian? What’s so great about being a Christian?

Vision

Community of Grace
Metaphor - Getting dressed up= Used to be clothed like a rebel
Text
Put off , put on because of a clear new reality
Big Idea: Instead of wandering to destruction through our desires, we can walk the path home while being clothed in the satisfaction of God’s grace.

Know grace because of Jesus’ victory and Jesus’ example

How did grace come to us?
Grace isn’t just forgiveness or mercy for sin. It’s the gift of a full relationship with God - oneness with everything good in the universe.
How did Jesus view the Father?
Someone who fundamentally loves Him
Job
Someone who He can trust because of His provision, His power, and His plan
Why do we struggle with grace? Because we struggle to see His provision, His power or His plan
= Dressing for the Boundary Waters
Because we don’t think He can satisfy our desires (no one else can either)

Be renewed in grace by putting off old ways of satisfying desire

because they destroy
The ship is falling apart - Wall-E
Looking outward
Worldliness is believing those old ways of satisfying desire don’t destroy
I can satisfy my desire for stuff / sex/ money and it won’t destroy me. Sometimes hold on to your dreams is simply code for the only thing that will satisfy are my dreams for my life.
Goths- Kurt Cobain
Legalism is a form of worldliness because it satisfies desire by demanding obedience rather than having a relationship with God Himself and it believes that obedience itself will satisfy desire
Christ is a big iron cage that locks my desires down and demands I can’t REALLY be satisfied
Christ Himself can’t satisfy. I will be satisfied through my own will power and discipline
Marriages - satisfy through security - lie that will destroy you
Christians - get married - you’ll be satisfied if you do your duty and stay married
We need grace because the old ways even the religious versions of those old ways don’t satisfy in fact they destroy.
Hell is real. God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

Be renewed in grace by putting on a new lifestyle as a new creation

Having desires but instead of being controlled by them finding satisfaction in the reality of walking in a loving relationship with God and others
Ephesians 4:25–26 ESV
25 Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. 26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,
Chosen - Pass on grace
Adopted - “We are members of one another” 1
Redeemed - God in Christ forgave you 6
Know where this is headed - “Don’t give opportunity to the devil” 2
Inheritance - Share with those in need 3
Sealed - Sealed with the Holy Spirit 5
Galatians 5:20–25 ESV
20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit.
Ephesians 5:18–21 ESV
18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit, 19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, 20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, 21 submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Christ in the garden of Gethsemane…Paul on the way to Jerusalem…
There is something more satisfying than just avoiding pain…it’s walking with you in your world just like back in the garden. Grace are the clothes we walk in as if we are there already.... WE HAVE A RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD~!
Coming out of the Boundary Waters
Be fully convinced this is a good thing and you’re not being manipulated by something else
Pray
Sometimes wait
Be wary of side avenues
Putting out a fleece
Conversations about marriage
Speaking the Truth in Love
Romantic comedies
Wall-E - We are headed home. The victory has been won. Will you live in that grace?
