Genesis 17

Verse 1-8
Go changes Abram to Abraham to reflect the blessing that was going to be bestowed on him through this covenant.
God’s part under This covenant
Under this covenant God will make Abraham exceedingly fruitful and multiply him and his descedents
He will also give the land of Canaan as an everlasting covenant possession to him.
Finally, he will be they God
Verse 7, this covenant is established in Mount Sinai with Abraham descendants.
Abraham and his descendants part under this covenant
Verse 10-14
Every male child will be circumcised, the sign of the covenant would be in thier flesh.
The person who was not circumcised was cut off
NOTE:
It is from this point on the the people of the world were divided in two. Circumcised and uncircumcised. Israel and Gentiles/heathens.
New Testament Circumcision
Colossians 2:11-15, s
This circumcision is done by Christ, and through this we enter into the New Covenant.
Galatians 3:26–29 NKJV
26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Therefore the people of the world are seprarted in two, those who have been Circumsised by Christ and those who have not.
We have to see the words Gentiles in this way.
Ephesians 2:11-19s
Under the Old covenant we were strangers, foreigners, without hope, without God in the World .
However, Through Christ in the New Covenant we are fellow citizens and members of the household of God.

Genesis 18

Verse 1-15
There is an apointed time, for God’s promise to be fullfilled.
The difficulty is holding on to the promise in faith, and being found in the presence of God at the appointed time.
Verse 16-22
The secret of the Lord was with those who fear him.
Psalms 25:14 “14 The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant.”
God knew that Abraham lived in the fear of the Lord and taught and will continue to teach his household after him the ways of the Lord.
God has known us inorder for us to keep his ways but also to teach it to our household.
Those who bring their children in the ways of the Lord find great favor in God’s sight.
Verse 23-33
Abraham was intercedeeing with God, and God was listening to him.
Abraham was elevated to the point where he was able to reason with God but then finally once that was finished he went back to his place.
Did Abraham really see God.
John 1:18 “18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.”
1 John 4:12 “12 No one has seen God at any time. If we love one another, God abides in us, and His love has been perfected in us.”
1 Timothy 6:15-16 “15 which He will manifest in His own time, He who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, dwelling in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see, to whom be honor and everlasting power. Amen.”
God is a Spirit and a spirit is invicible
Colossians 1:15, the scripture says that Christ is the image of the invicible God
How do we reconcile this withe the many instances where it is said that men say God?
Genesis 16, Hagar says i have seen him who sees me.
Genesis 18, Abraham saw a man who was the Lord
Genesis 32, Jacob wrestled with God and he says “i have seen God face to face and my life is spared”
Exodus 4, Moses speaks with God in the burning bush
Exodus 24:10 some of the elders of Israel are said to have seen God in Mount Sinai.
The Answer,
They did not actually see God they Saw an Angel that represented God’s presence.
Isaiah 63:8–9 NKJV
8 For He said, “Surely they are My people, Children who will not lie.” So He became their Savior. 9 In all their affliction He was afflicted, And the Angel of His Presence saved them; In His love and in His pity He redeemed them; And He bore them and carried them All the days of old.
The was an angel who represented God’s presence. AKA “the Angel of the Lord
So when the Angel came before men such as Abraham, Jacob, Moses. It is as if God was the one that came before them. When they heard the Angel, they were hearing God, when they saw the Angel they were seeing God. However they did not literarly see God, since he is spirit and Invicible.
