o   *TRUST* GOD to PROVIDE

·         Thirsty, again…Testing the Lord…..Strike the rock.

·         Amelikite Attack…….God Gives Victory

*Ex 19:3* Then Moses climbed the mountain to appear before God.

The Lord called to him from the mountain and said, “Give these instructions to the family of Jacob; announce it to the descendants of Israel: 4 ‘You have seen *what I did to the Egyptians*.

You know how *I carried you on eagles’ wings* and brought you to myself.

5 *Now* if you will *obey me* and keep my covenant, *you will be my own special treasure* from among all the peoples on earth; for all the earth belongs to me.

6 And you will be *my kingdom of priests, my holy nation*.’

This is the message you must give to the people of Israel.”

7 So Moses returned from the mountain and called together the elders of the people and told them everything the Lord had commanded him.

8 And */all the people responded/* together, “We will do everything the Lord has commanded.”

·         The Lord Descends in Fire  & Speaks Loudly to Moses

·         People Afraid

*20 *And God spoke all these words, saying,

*2* “I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery.

*1**   3* “You shall have *no other gods* before me.

·         *It is ALL about HIM…He is the only Legitimate Object of Worship*

·         *What is Idolatry?

…. the root of all sin….seeking to define value on my terms  *

·         *Can I serve God & ____________ ?

*2**    4* “You shall *not make for yourself a carved image*, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

*5* You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for /I the Lord your God am a *jealous* God,/ visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, *6* but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.

·        *Why?*

·        *We demean Him and make him in our image…a Comfortable God*

*3**  7* “You shall *not take the name of the Lord your God in vain*, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes his name in vain.

·        Cursing…or more?

·        He is Serious about his Name…it defines~/describes Him

·        A bride takes the name….an

adulterous in vain

o   Don’t Call yourself a Christian if you’re not

 

*4**  8* “Remember the *Sabbath day*, to keep it holy.

*9* Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, *10* but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.

On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates.

*11* For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day.

Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

·        *Is this still true?*

·        *What is the point~/purpose?*

o   Mark 2:27 “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.

o   *Privilege not Duty….time to rest in your God*

o   *Trusting God to Provide*

*5**  12* “*Honor your father and your mother*, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you.

·        But what if their stupid or evil?

·        God given~/sanctioned authority

·        Do you trust Him?

*6  **13* “You shall not *murder*.

·        Why?.....God owns Human Life

·        Is Self-defense OK?  How about War?

o   Matt 5:* **22* But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire.

*7**    14* “You shall not commit *adultery*.

·        Why not….who will know?

·        Breaking a vow & union God Created

·        Looking to satisfy my “needs” (happiness) apart from Him

*8**    15* “You shall not *steal*.

·        It is a complaint that God has not provided what you need

·        An attempt to find satisfaction in things at another’s expense.

* **9**  16* “You shall not bear *false witness* against your neighbor.

·        Lying…..Why?

·        “Lord we were naked and ashamed so we hid”

o   Lying is an attempt to manipulate others to boost myself for personal advantage.

*10**    17* “You shall not *covet* your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male servant, or his female servant, or his ox, or his donkey, or anything that is your neighbor’s.”

·        What is coveting?...A jealous yearning to have what others have.

·        DISSATISFACTION w~/ what God has given me.

·        Filling my Vacuum with stuff.

Why Do they need this NOW?

!! The Reward??

*My earthly people whom I will bless, protect and provide*

*Can keeping the Law gain eternal life for us?*

*     Gal 3:**11* Now it is evident that *no one* is justified before God *by the l**aw*, for “The *righteous shall live by faith*.”

*Rom 3: **19* Obviously, the law applies to those to whom it was given, for */its purpose is to keep people from having excuses/*/,/ and to show that the entire world is guilty before God.

20 For no one can ever be made right with God by doing what the law commands.

The law simply shows us how sinful we are.

*Rom 7: 5*  When we were living in the flesh (mere physical lives), the *sinful passions that were awakened /and/ aroused up by [what] the Law* *[makes sin]* were constantly operating in our natural powers (in our bodily organs, in the sensitive appetites and wills of the flesh), so that we bore fruit for death.

6 But now we are discharged from the Law /and/ have terminated all intercourse with it, having died to what once restrained /and/ held us captive.

So now we serve not under [obedience to] the old code of written regulations, but [under obedience to the promptings] of the Spirit in newness [of life].

7 What then do we conclude?

Is the Law identical with sin? Certainly not!

Nevertheless*, if it had not been for the Law, I should not have recognized sin /or/ have known its meaning.*

[For instance] I would not have known about covetousness [would have had no consciousness of sin or sense of guilt] if the Law had not [repeatedly] said, You shall not covet /and/ have an evil desire [for one thing and another].

8 But sin, finding opportunity in the commandment [to express itself], got a hold on me */and/ aroused /and/ stimulated all kinds of forbidden desires* (lust, covetousness).

For *without the Law sin is dead [the sense of it is inactive and a lifeless thing].

*9 Once I was alive, but quite apart from /and/ unconscious of the Law.

But when the commandment came, sin lived again and I died (was sentenced by the Law to death).

10 And the very legal ordinance which was designed /and/ intended to bring life actually proved [to mean to me] death.

11 For sin, seizing the opportunity /and/ getting a hold on me [by taking its incentive] from the commandment, beguiled /and/ entrapped /and/ cheated me, and using it [as a weapon], killed me.

12 *The Law therefore is holy*, and [each] commandment is holy and just and good.

13 Did that which is good then prove fatal [bringing death] to me? Certainly not!

It was sin, working death in me by using this good thing [as a weapon], in order that through the commandment sin might be shown up clearly to be sin, *that the extreme malignity and immeasurable sinfulness of sin might plainly appear.*

14 We know that the Law is spiritual; but I am a creature of the flesh [carnal, unspiritual], having been sold into slavery under [the control of] sin.

 

*Gal 3:17* This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void.
